I have a gallon jug of Delo 15-40 left over from our truck fleet and I was wondering if I could run it in my 1997 Ford explorer with 189K on it. The manual says 5-30 or 10-30 is recommended for the OHV motor it and I have been using 5-30 PYB for the last 5 OCI's.
Just wanted some feedback.

Thanks!

As long as it's not going to be started in weather below 40* or so, I'd run it. Those engines won't hate you for going up to a 40, particularly not with some miles on it.

Delo 15W40 is fine below 40*F.

I would use it.

You're in LA - don't have to worry about cold weather start...so 15-40 is OK in that regard and the 4.0 won't mind the 40WT too much.

I would recommend that you purchase what you're already running, but if you're asking "can I use this free oil?" then, yeah, you can...

Ok yes its "FREE" and I have access to lots of it at any time I need it lol. So yes my question is since I get get it really easy would it be ok to run it with out any negative effects or would the PYB be a better choice.

+1. I would only use it 1 qt. at each OC unless your engine is a big oil burner or oil leaker.
