Dear Autozone.....Your oil filter selection stinks

As you can see by your first five filter listing, Rank Group has AZ fairly well locked down. Difference between it and Wally is the horrendous everyday pricing of those products.

The exception the Bosch Premium filter is a solid filter, but also overpriced at $7.50. Only way to get these is with an oil/ filter promo, if you can find one that beats a jug and filter that beats something obtainable at Wally.

They do also have a small selection Motorcraft at reasonable prices. Sometimes though, unless one knows the MC Xref a match is difficult to find because there is no listing. Not all STP and ACD are ecore, but not helpful if your app happens to be one.

Generally not the place if you're looking for a particular filter constuction at a good price.

No matter how late the hour, there is probably a WallyWorld nearby that is open later, has a "better" selection, and for lower prices.

If one does not like the selection, then move thy feet elsewhere to shop.

Caveat Emptor ...

Off topic slightly but still AZ related...

We have two stores around here about 5-6 miles apart, both are filled with useless, idiots at any given time. I decided to take a second job when the wife got laid off and we needed additional income so I figured I'd apply for evening shifts (4-9) and just go right up the road after my day job to make a few extra dollars.

I was told to go online and apply there, I then have to take a very extensive 100 question mechanical ability test followed by a personality/judgement test. I am ASE certified Master technician and have been doing this for 15 years and found some of the questions tricky but I'm sure I aced it, anyway I never did get a call back! I guarantee you not one of the employees in either store could answer 5% of those questions correct! Maybe I was "over qualified"...

Probably due to an "exclusivity" clause with FRAM/CHAMP LABS offering them better pricing.

My local AZ has that same filter for $3.99, and the 820S for $3.69. Plus, I can walk there to pick it up. The closest WM is 14 miles away, and when I get there, I'm at WM...

The Bosch filters they have seem to be about $1.00 more than the cheapest prices I've seen, so it's not like they're charging double for them. And typically they have an oil change special that includes a filter. I just did an oil change for a friend, QS conventional and Bosch filter for $21.00. Seems like reasonable pricing to me.

Auto places around here are very competitive with Wally's on Motorcrafts and but absolutely nothing else.

I believe these places don't want intelligent, competent employees because you have to PAY them more, because they are worth it. These places just want a warm body taking up space so they can pay 7.50/8.00/ hr and never worry about giving a raise. These losers come and go so quickly the aspect of a raise never comes up. Sad, but true.

They know that when you need a filter right now you will pay 150% of what you can buy that filter on line for.
Are you the Jethro that wanted to be a fry cook or a brain surgeon? Regards

What ever happened to the deutsch filters they used to carry? I used those a lot back 15 years or so ago. They seamed like they were good filters.

I dunno, those were ok... but I'm sure John Q Public bought more orange cans... so they were discontinued.

I used to like Advance Auto's "Total Grip" house brand filters. Those were a good standard filter, and the grip was a nice plus.
