Dealer add on prices.

That lease is ridiculous.

My understanding is they lose out on the commission/incentive/whatever you call it unless a certain amount of payments are made. I can’t even remember if I made one payment or not before refinancing. But if I did, it was only the one.
Interesting....I would love to bust through the "huge discount conundrum." Here in Phila., there are always 0-4 and normally 0-2 Tahoes on the lot. Most dealers show list price. Every once in a while a discount shows up, not huge--someone in the business knows why. In East Hartford, CT, Tahoes are $3,000 over list. Different market?

Now, got to Chicago or Dallas, and getting a $6k sometimes $8k discount showing online is easy--15-23 Tahoes on the lot. It would be very, very, very, interesting, to see what the add ons are. I even learned a new word through my internet searches: "upfit." That's not included.

In other words, you're not walking out of there with $6k off, or $8k off, BUT, some have said, even with the add ons and shipping to say the east coast, they still made out better than their local dealer.

This is a very draining process to say the least! :ROFLMAO:

The used car market is challenging, especially when you go private. Word of mouth helps. Back in the day, I would take my floor jack with me to thoroughly check out a private sale used car to check underneath ( exhaust, leaks, etc ) Yeh, the seller didn't like my floor jack wheels on his asphalt driveway, so I would take a 1/4 sheet of 3'4" plywood so I wouldn't make marks on their " precious " driveway. Screw them. I was checking that car !!!!!!!

I've sold cars private party, there is no way I would let a buyer jack it up or take anything apart.

IBut to the $80,000, they add freight. Why? Destination is already included in MSRP. Freight on top of that?

So in reality, it's not an $8,025 discount. Freight happens to be one of the add ons items. What are the rest going to be? It's like buying from Will Ferrell

I could see adding an additional freight charge if it needed to come from another dealer as a dealer trade

It's still early (9:25 EDT), if a person got right on it, they might be able to snag this vehicle. Safe to assume the buyer is going to qualify for some flavor of the $500 rebate.

My local Chevy dealer has 18 Tahoes. They are advertising $6,000 off High Country with some options for $500 for various things. I don’t know what the doc/admin fee is but probably $399-$499 in my market.

I have then service our Yukon if I’m not doing it myself as they are better than the GMC dealer.

To be transparent, our custom order was $4,000 off. $500 educator. So $6,000 is 2k better, and I’ve seen $8750 off.

My sneaking suspicion is that one cannot say, I want it. For you final price. Go ahead and charge me $399 doc fee no problem. I’ll be there after work to get it. No financing needed.

Ours was straight math—list price minus discount. Minus educator. Add $477 doc fee. Add registration (sales mgr let me take a pic of the MSO as we signed it). Add sales tax. That’s it. Nothing else.

MD dealers add freight to the final price, even though destination when destination is already in MSRP. They too show $6,000 off. $2595 is gone right there. Who knows what other upfits are mandatory. I learned that term in 2025.

Anybody who can get $6k other than employee or supplier and straight goods honest price? I’d say buy the car if you could use 123 or 145 cu ft

Edit Ps I asked another dealer who contacted me. Can you do $4500? He said no, that’s steep on a custom order, we cannot. It took 7 weeks to build and 1 1/2 to ship. So our tiny dealer came through. Seems many online say 3-5 mos. Imho that’s dealer games, not GM.

I LOATHE dealing with dealership financing BS.
When I am going shopping for my new car I will get a pre approved loan from a credit union, dealer can go suck on an egg. That is how they make their money now, ridicules financing terms.

"How much do you want your monthly payment to be?"
I don't know, what is the APR you are offering based on my credit score. This is followed by the sales guy getting a face that is a mix of confusion and constipation.

"We can get you better rates than the bank or the credit union"

Ok gives me the terms and I pull out my calculator and break it down mathematically how he is full of bovine excrement. I get a scared and confused look from the guy like I am doing witchcraft in public while dancing naked.

"But your payment is only X dollars a month"

Yeah but the APR is triple what the credit union is offering me. I would pay X,XXX more in interest here are the numbers.
At that point the salesman looked like a cheap chinese power tool letting out the magic smoke.

I will admit this much. I decided to borrow 30% of the car price so we went to Navy Fed on a Sat morning. No idea what I was expecting as it’s been at least 10 years. They said the wait was 1 hour 45 min. So I said can I do this all online? Desk said yes should be approved in minutes. Said I could pick up the check and yes interest starts immediately. We need the VIN.

Of course dealer didn’t want this. This is only the 4th new car and it was the same all 4 times. Dealer provided same rate through a Maryland CU. Sales mgr pointed out (again) that since rates are dropping, you can refi with Navy. You can’t if you had them for the purchase. Navy pays $200 to refi so it will work out. What doesn’t fly is if they said you must finance with GM at 7%. I suspect some of those large discounts online require captive high rate financing.

I’ve heard this comment several times when shopping for a car. We all pay the same price to the mfg it’s a bit curious when one dealer is at list and another $6000 off.

Edit as mentioned we left with nothing added other than $477 doc fee, registration, and sales tax. What is cool is the decline to all the add ons was included in the paperwork and shows the monthly and the full price. Extended warranty $3k, tire warranty $1k, etc etc. these are in fact astronomical numbers. What are the chances a tire wheel warranty would ever be used? All our tires were protected by Costco. How many times were we given a replacement? In 15 years?

Not too shabby. We bought the 2024 Yukon XL AT4 in May of 2024 for $4,500 off. It was technically $4001 after the $499 doc fee. We were in a bit of a constraint as the Suburban was totaled and insurance was going to stop the rental.

I knew what we wanted and a dealer in Oklahoma delivered it to me for no charge, just the 300 miles they put on it. Tipped the driver $100. Maybe the 300 miles of highway bought me some time on this 6.2 as it’s been good so far, knock on wood, at 29,000 miles.

Sticker was $86,690
Wired them $81,689 as I put $1,000 on a credit card to hold it. Painless process and no time in the sales or finance office.
