Dead: Nissan Maxima. -Jalopnik

the non-premium executive sedan is dead and has been dying for a long time. entry level midsize sedans are the almost same size and can be optioned out.

people want to step up to a better nameplate than what those vehicles had to offer, that’s just a fact. the lexus ES still moves 45k units a year for the small amount of people who can’t sacrifice size for prestige.

azera dead
avalon dead
maxima dead
taurus dead
lacrosse dead
300 dead

Just wait. The Toyota Crown is coming.

Had an 04 SL for a few years. Fantastic powertrain….****ty everything else.

They don’t make those anymore either.
They still do but it's also gonna be dead in a year as well. A shame larger sedans are going extinct. Well at least high value ones affordable to the middle class. The near 100k large sedans will always exist.

Because a vehicle with paddle shifters and manual shift mode can be fun. Especially for people who don't read they (CVTs) are all evil on a certain auto forum.

I had a Subaru Legacy -the paddle shifters were the only redeeming quality the car had.
True to an extent from my perspective... a family member had a Smart4Two several yrs ago and it had paddle shifters... what the hell is the point when you barely have 4 hamsters pushing the thing?!? Also, I imagine paddles would be useful in straight line accelerating, but I prefer lots of curves and that might interfere with steering often.

I guess I'm in the minority that strongly prefers the CVT in my ride. Maybe it's built to function better than other types (yes it's a Nissan) and I have had NO issues with it going on 9 yrs. and approaching 100K. I don't dog the crap out of it constantly, but it's always been rather responsive with anything I put it through. Also has a manual shift mode and overrides any RMP limiting as well, so it can scoot for a 1.6L...

You hate to see another sedan option go away, but it had to go. I'd imagine the sales numbers have been horrifically low for years.

The Versa keeps getting bigger and 'nicer', as does the Sentra. Then of course the Altima. In reality, Nissan is still too top heavy on run-o-the-mill Sedans.

I loved my 2013 SV. Excellent power, comfort for tall people, good economy if you respected throttle. Nobody buys sedans, no surprise it's done.
This actually surprised me with the mention for tall people. My coworker has a 2014 Maxima and that thing is TINY and super cramped inside. My 2015 Sonata was cavernous. I didn’t mention anything, but when he got in my car he said “wow, this thing is huge inside!”. My knees are almost in the dash in the Maxima, and I’m 6’2”. He’s probably 5’11”

Were you in the passenger seat or driver's seat? I'm 6'3" and have plenty of room, but passenger side without the vertical adjustment is a little tight.

I’ve owned 3 Maximas, a 1981, 1986 and a 1992. All 3 were very good cars. Sad to see them slowly wither on the vine for the last 15 years.

My first car was a 94 Maxima. I now regret not realizing just how much of a prize I had(I traded it for my Lincoln LS in '08, and that was a car I truly loved).

I've still kept a soft spot for them, but I don't remember when I last even saw a modern one. Like others have said, even if you do see one it's hard to tell apart from an Altima.

they killed the maxima when the pos cvt was introduced....
all the love children produced after the Renault-Nissan marriage were abominations! It blows my mind that a Japanese car company thought they had anything to learn from a FRENCH automaker!

I'm on my first Maxima and love it although it's 22 yrs old. The 3.0 / 5 speed combo can outrun most vehicles in my area , but still be a civilized comfortable hwy car with good fuel mileage.
