Been looking and lusting over those Ford ThunderBirds across the internet. A while back I found several of the Fords folks have taken real good care of and were sweet low mile - collector / driver possiblities. Just was not the right time.
We owned a1986 Monte Carl (non aero roof) SS Sports Coupe. Someone / some people stole it and stripped it down in a chop shop nearby.
I always loved the Monte Carlos and the Thunder Bird Super Coupe's from that era. Those are two of several models I been keeping my eyes on at all the classic car web sites I can find..... Just in case I can't take not having a "toy" anymore & get back ino collecting / driving a classic again. These last 2 years are the first times since 1976 I do not own an Olds Cutlass, a Chevy Chevelle or a Ford classic truck.

I kinda got a soft spot for SVO's...
Oh yes. I think those are worth quite a bit of $$$$$s these days. There was a guy in my town who I often saw thrashing a red one all over the place.
I certainly would not have treated one that way if I had it. There are too many other models for doing all that type stuff. :geek:

I stole one of @slo town 's pics to help explain what the theory is. If you look at the back of the wheel there are the small holes around the large center hole. Those correspond to the 6 pins on the hub surface of the brake hat. These locate the wheel on the hub before the lugnut is tightened to make sure it is oriented correctly and flush mounted to the hub.

The theory with what RFK and Penske did was modify the holes on the wheels to make sure that they were engaged properly and faster than as the wheels were supplied by BBS. It wouldn't be surprising that Penske figured this out since V8 Supercars uses a similar setup and Penske about dominated V8SC from 2017-2020 with Scott McLaughlin winning the driver's title 2018-2020.

sometimes that sneaky extra :cautious: effort...... goes undetected and works!!! several winners in years gone by , managed to get away with some innovative stuff others never even thought to try. some had to be called for what it was, flat out cheating where some things not so much. Maurice Petty (master engine builder among other things) pulled some down n out LMAOROTF:ROFLMAO:! things to help his brother win. He said some worked and sometimes he sabotaged himself by trying to be better. LOL. Don't think today there is anywhere near the amount of what used to be tried. Too many eyes all over now.
TODAY:
So far so good..... I like the clean / fast racing they starting out with. Only 1 ? or two cautions. Knock, knock, knock on wood ... rap rap rap I hope they can keep it up. Flat out awsome when they get those long / fast & faster driving stretches when no one pulls any stupid circus stunt driving that near wipes out half the field. Awe.... do not like all the newer STAGEs they added in recent years.
