Dallas Cowboys

I read a poll recently that put Dallas as the #1 most popular team in the NFL with the Packers a close second. It will probably be the most watched game of the season tomorrow.

after they went into their failure funk the last 15 years I tought that old 'America's Team' montra ship sailed.

Are they really still "Americas Team"?

Obviously in the days of Tom Landry, Dandy Don Meredith, Craig Morton, Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett...etc... they were a class act. They were what America should be. Even if they did lose Super Bowls to Baltimore and Pittsburg.

We still remember Meredith and Starr. Will anyone remember Rodgers and Romo in 50 years? Their stats are probably better, but I don't think we will.

From Wiki:

Criticism

In an online poll from October 8, 2003, Jones was named the least favorite sports personality by Sports Illustrated, in three states (Virginia, Delaware and Texas).[5] He is often vilified by fans who remain bitter at Jones' unceremonious firing of fan-favorite Landry. Some of the fan criticism is due to Jones' high visibility and involvement as the "face of the team" which is in stark contrast to original owner Clint Murchison Jr.

Some Dallas Cowboy fans have expressed their displeasure with Jones and the lack of success in the franchise. This had led to formation of grassroots organizations aimed at displacing Jones from his position.[6]

Jones is the subject of the 2008 book Playing to Win by David Magee. In the book, Jones says he handled the firing of Tom Landry poorly and takes some blame for the disintegration of his relationship with Landry's successor, Jimmy Johnson.

After their last Super Bowl win in 1995, the Cowboys have endured mediocrity since then, winning just two playoff games since 1996. In recent seasons, the Cowboys went 8-8 from 2011–13, losing the NFC East title in Week 17 of the season each year to three different divisional opponents. In 2014 the Cowboys won the NFC East for the first time in 5 years after key drafts and free agent signings. [7]

I think you nailed it dblshock. I cant think of anybody, including friends who are cowboys fans, who like Jerry Jones. I think it has led to a lot of the hate toward the team.

I do respect Dallas69 as a football fan, I'm happy he has a club to follow but geeez.. at what point do you just want the Jones D-Bag ego maniac to just go away.

JJ is a good owner but up til this year is a bad GM
This year he finally listened to his son and the real football people around him and drafted good players instead of going for the flashy ones-Manziel
What a mess that would have been
Jones knows how to make tons of money and the other owners do look up to him if that's the right way to put it
He does get on my nerves
He never saw a camera he wouldn't stick his face in
My dad always said he looks like a skinned frog!
Go Cowboys

Tex Schramm and Tom Landry were the reason the Cowboys became such a good team and became so popular during they're tenure at Dallas. It didn't take JJ but a few days to screw all that up, starting with the way he fired Tom Landry.

I was abig Landry fan and hated the takeover
I despised Jones for many years over this and his overall handling of the team I grew up following
Jones has said that he is sorry for the way things happened
I guess I have grown used to him over the years-kind of like the drunk uncle at Christmas
Go Cowboys

with the warmer temperatures and moderating wind forecast I'll need to revise my score prediction:

Green Bay Packers 73
Dallas Coyboys 6

I asked the question in the playoff thread, and it was ignored, so I'll ask it here. Is Aikeman or Romo a better QB?

With temperature near 20F it will be an absolute party in Green Bay it would be a blast to be up their eating brat's and drinking beer in the parking lot right now.

Troy Aikman is by far a better QB. He's was one tough SOB when he played! Plus 3 rings!!
