I did an oil change on a customers pickup last week. I put the old PH16 in our oil drain thing and let it sit for about a week to totally drain.
Yes it has cardboard end caps and a plastic bypass valve. There are not many pleats or folds in the element and they are not evenly spaced.
The rubber anti drain valve is rock hard
Well maybe not rock hard but definatly not soft and pliable.
The element was still firmly glued to the cardboard endcaps and the endcaps were evenly centered over the tube.
While I still wouldn't use a Fram oil filter this particular one was not THAT bad aside from the anti drain thing being hard.
FWIW I put a "Proline" filter back on it
Oh I have no way to post pics..Sorry.
Now on to my stuff. I'm gonna change the oil/filter on my 73' I.H. pickup tomorrow.
It calls for the PH8A sized filter. I have been running the smaller PH16 size filter because I can really hear the mains rattle with the larger filters. The truck sits more than it gets driven and I guess no filter will hold oil forever.
Running the smaller filter seems to quiet the knocks up when I first start it.
I have a Motorcraft FL300 and a Purolater L20081 with the bypass on the wrong end. I'm leaning toward the FL300......Any reason to use the L20081 instead?
