Winter traction won't matter as much since the OP is in Quebec, where winter tires are mandatory.

yeah i have dedicated studded winter tires. i drive 20 000+ miles per year so tread wear is important. 60-40 hwy/city. laid back driving but every now and than a bit of hard driving. wet traction very important to me. i want to be able to go 65-75 miles an hour without worrying about losing traction and hydroplaining.

Continental seems to be making tires that have great wet traction as of late. The ExtremeContact DWS on our Fit are quite sticky in the wet. I've heard other non-OEM Conti tires are good wet performers also.

If you're not able to find the Firestone Precision Sport installed for anywhere from around $125US to $135US, you're getting screwed. That's the tire I would recommend.

Luckily the FR380 and FR710 are not options in this size, and aside from the FR710 in some sizes, they shouldn't be an option. Period.

Wet traction and hydroplaning are distinct from each other. Hydroplaning will occur with any tire -- regardless of the tire's traction characteristics -- when the water on the road surface is deeper than the depth of the tread grooves; a worn tire with excellent traction characteristics, therefore, will exhibit hydroplaning in situations where a new tire with mediocre traction characteristics may avoid hydroplaning.
