CRAZY HEAT is Coming to the Northwest

My sister and BIL are in Gig Harbor, WA. SeaTac area I guess. I hear that ain't used to this heat, but do have AC.
Stay safe everyone.

I hope so. The last time the northwest saw a lengthy heat wave with multiple days (6 days IIRC) at 100F+ was in 1928.

And that is a big aspect many people miss.....

Accurate and somewhat more and more widespread as time moved forward historical temperature observations only go back to really the 1880s going forward. Oldest record high or low temp from my local weather service office was in 1874....
Even at that time there were very few places doing them.

Hurricane climatology is even much more recent being in the 1950s going forward. Before that time if a hurricane happened to cross over a ship or location with a barometer was the only measurements taken. The Galveston hurricane happened to hit with it's eye a weather bureau office in that city. Otherwise it would have been pure speculation of just how strong that hurricane was. Same thing with the Labor Day hurricane of 1935. The 892 mB low pressure was a record until 2005 with Hurricane Wilma at 882 mB..

Our truly accurate climatological record is extraordinarily and exceptionally brief in terms of Earth's history. Hurricanes really less than 75 years out of... Billions of years.... Temperature 140-150 years out of billions of years.

All set. It’s just after 10:00. Got the house cooled down to 72. The outside temp is 74 and 50% relative humidity. All windows shut. AC is set for 77. The ceiling temp in the vaulted ceiling is 73. The forecast is for 100 F by 5:00 PM, a new record.

Unknown to me, my wife baked some muffins in the oven. Doh!
It’s 6:30 PM the interior temp with the AC on is 77 degrees. The ceiling temp is 80 F with one ceiling fan on. We did hit 100 F outside.

We were staying with Family in Lake Forest Park last week and the weather was very nice. We flew back to Arkansas on Saturday and it looks as if we got out of there just in time!

I just lost power, looks like the transformer on my street failed, as the outage map shows that only 11 houses were effected. This should be interesting since it's 90F in the house and still 105 outside. Bye bye food in the fridge, as I doubt the fix will be that fast.

Check out some long term almanacs, it`s eye opening how weather anomalies repeat over long periods of time. During the mid fifties was a hot spell that topped out at 106 deg in Concord NH. Remember it well.

We hit 100 by 1030, topped out at 116. And honestly, I will take this over the months of smoke and ash like we had last few years. I'd rather sweat than cough.

We are forecasted to his 36c in west central Saskatchewan this week. It is not supposed to be humid, which is nice. It will then slowly drop to more normal mid to high 20's with the possibility of rain.

Its still nicer than Kamloops BC, where I was a kid. High thirties to mid 40's.

But hey, in 6 months it will be -36c.

Wife was stupid no matter how many times I told her our dryer vent go in the middle of he air vent return so do not turn on AC with the dryer at the same time (it is free heat in the winter though), she was wondering why was it so hot last week and then I realize the dryer and AC are both on. This is like the 5th time already. Next time I think I would turn off the circuit breaker to the dryer when AC is on just in case.

My wife doesn't like the look of a clothes line.............but if I hang the clothes, I don't have to do anything else with doing laundry. Thank god no neighbors can see me!

On the average, perfect! :D

First time in 13 years my temp needle went past 210 F in my Burb. It was 40 degrees C ( 104 F) in a parking lot in town. Good thing I still have a blanket in the truck, pictured in the rear view mirror.

108F today, Tuesday, in north Idaho. Same for tomorrow. ( Phoenix AZ will be 105F today).
I am looking forward to Monday, when it "cools down" to 95F.
Not looking forward to Sunday when the fireworks maniacs go nuts in the neighborhoods with illegal fireworks.

Lytton, BC got up to 49.5C and the weather station in up on the highway near the high school.
