Craftsman weed wacker question.,,

I have a weed wacker that's 3 years old. It has been easy to start, but stutters and wants to stall when you give it gas. There's no mixture screws on the carb, just epoxied holes where the screws should be. I would think if it's gummed up it would be hard to start, and wouldn't want to idle. But that's not the case. So is a dis-assembly and clean out in my future?. It runs better when the choke is closed some.,

Do you think a small shot of Berryman's B12 might be too caustic on the fuel lines? They call for 1 oz per gallon which is probably safer than eye balling a splash into the tank.

Not a continuous dosing but a one-time run thru

I'd say that's worth a try. I don't think it will harm it.
 
When you add some kind of carb cleaner to the mix along with the oil run your weed whacker without the air cleaner and while running at operating speed stall the engine with the palm of your hand. This should help suck some fuel into those passages with a bit more force than just running the stuff through the running engine.

Do this a few times and be patient. Squirt some of that stuff into the carb and let it stop the engine. Repeat and let it sit over night soaking, too.

The passages are really small so take your time.

Sometimes that epoxy is being used as tamperproof plugs covering the mixture screws. Guys will take a soldering iron to that epoxy and let it run out.
 
You may want to check the spark arrestor mesh screen on the muffler if one is installed. They get clogged with carbon buildup after a couple of years and prevent adequate exhaust flow. That is the first item I remove after purchasing OPE. It is only installed to get a federal certification to be forestry service approved for use around govt. owned parks.

Blue marine Stabil has the most cleaners. You can safely double dose.

I got a cool hundred bucks tied up in this thing, so that ain't gonna happen. If it was an older picked one, I wouldn't have wasted the time typing out the question.,,,

OK. This time I will offer a bit better advice. Sell your Craftsman trimmer on Craigslist for $75. Buy a nice used Stihl/Echo off Craigslist for $75. And yes you can buy a nice trimmer for that price range, as I JUST sold a nice perfect running Stihl trimmer on Craigslist for $75.
 
That craftsman has a zama or walbro carb, just like the stihl, husky, and echos. They are all prone to carb problems. Don't listen to the idiots that say trash it.

Pull the carb and get the #s off the carb body. Buy the $9 kit and a can of brake cleaner. Get a spark plug, lines, and filter too. $20 will have you running like new.
