I have for your amusement a counterfeit Motorcraft FL-910S oil filter dissection against a know good OEM Motorcraft FL-910S example. For curiosity sake, I knowingly obtained the counterfeit Motorcraft FL-910S from China via Aliexpress for $4 shipped. OEM example was obtained from Amazon and was a sold and shipped by Amazon product and not third party.

In all pictures posted except for one, the counterfeit example is on the left side of each comparison against the OEM. Main thing I have notice with the counterfeit, is the larger and thicker can size but also smaller media element. ADBV of the counterfeit is also wafer thin and pretty much a joke. Counterfeit also has a dome end bypass. Filter media of the counterfeit also seems way thin and brittle to the touch. I have low expectations this would have been serviceable in use for any length of time.

I mean for only $4 ...not bad. LOL
Could this possibly be for another foreign market? Definitely no comparison. Good for you to order from Aliexpress to test this situation & post the results here. Regardless the one from Ali is not for US market or counterfeit like you stated.

My whole thought process was to see if the filter was even of enough build quality to be a serviceable filter. Like you alluded to, this may be for passing off in other foreign markets (but still as a counterfeit) and not here in North America.

There doesn't appear to be a BYPASS valve on the "counterfeit" ???

Cool comparison. Differences easily seen with c&p. And an anecdote of the "sold and shipped by Amazon" being a legit Motorcraft filter. Those two factors together more ensure that the product purchased, in this case 910S, is legit. Go to a third party seller and shipper especially, and it opens up the opportunity for an other than genuine product.

Interesting how the off shored knock off, uses a coil compression spring. That is generally a characteristic of the China coo filters. As noted, the counterfeit one, doesn't 'look' too bad.

Thanks for the c&p comparison.

Might this just be a china market filter and not counterfeit?
Although ali express is the wild West of shopping.

I never have had a problem with auto parts not being genuine so long as it was sold and shipped by Amazon. I have heard of second hand accounts of Amazon mixing third party sold stock with their stock but I have never ran into that issue either. This is probably the 5th FL-910S I have bought from them and all were genuine. Same with AC Delco stuff through them also.
