Costco policy on installing larger tires

Confirmed today what many of you might already know. Costco says they will install tires that match stock size, or they'll match whatever size currently on the vehicle. They will not upsize tires. FYI

Walmart told me they would only install the tire size listed on the door jam sticker. I had the window sticker still in the glove box and showed them my tires were optioned up from the factory with the tow package. They still would not install the tires I purchased until a manager finally told them it was ok, but said I should go to Dodge for the proper tire decal.

Anyone know what Discount Tire/Tire Rack's policy is? Also their policy for brick and mortar vs online sales.
A little over a year ago, they let me upsize from 215/45-18 to 225/45-18 on my mazda 3. The salesman said it was within the allowable perimeters but did not clarify what those were. I'm assuming it's a low percentage increase in width and/or overall diameter.

The way around this is to bring in the wheels not mounted on any car. Walmart will install the tires on loose rims not installed on any car :)

In years past, I've seen copies of tire guides at the service counter at Costco, Discount Tire, Firestone, Goodyear and WalMart that show the OEM tire fitment(s) for each vehicle sold in the U.S. by year and trim options. Large tire stores typically will only fit a tire that matches the specifications on the door jamb sticker, but can deviate based upon manufacture options listed in the tire guide. I believe the tire guides are all embedded in their point of sale software now.

I never could understand why people would want to deviate from factory stock sizes on wheels and tires.

Wouldn't this look silly with a 4" lift and stock tires?

I had Costco put 26570R17 on when the original tire/sticker showed the 23570R17. The old tires were 235s. The guy on the phone checked with the manager.

2012 F150XL steel rims. Now I am just not sure what the best pressure to use on this bigger size? The 235s say 38psi on the tire placard.

More availability and cheaper to price out in my experience, especially with those with unusual sizes.

GM oddball 255/70R16 that's unavailable? Go up 265/70R16.
Can't get that A/T in 265/70R16? Go up 265/75R16.
