Cost breakdown of BEER

Hi all,

So the woman and I been racking our brains on this for about an hour and have had some success in deriving an answer but we're not sure we're right.

Question: What is the "best buy" per ABV % point between two beers. Or to put it more simply, which will get you feeling happier for the least amount of money.

Two beers:

1) Costco Kirkland Signature Light Beer
2) Natural Ice

Cost:
1) Costco: 48 pack for $21.99....... $.45.8/can
2) Natural Ice: 12 pack for $7.49.... $.62.4/can

ABV:
1) Costco: 4.2% per can (12fl oz)
2)Natural Ice: 5.9% can (12fl oz)

Also, which is the least fattening per ABV % point?

1) Costco: 105 calories per can @ 4.2% ABV
2) Natural Ice: 130 calories per can @ 5.9% ABV

Talk about drinking on a budget!

The problem we ran into was deriving a comparable unit between the two beers.

Here's what I figured out for the first part:

The Costo Kirkland costs about 0.91 cents per one ounce of actual alcohol.

The Natural Ice costs about 0.88 cents per one ounce of actual alcohol.

If the buzz factor is directly proportional to the actual alcohol consumed, the Natural ice saves you .03 cents per each ounce of alcohol consumed.


EDIT - I figured this brain teaser out before I saw the formula above!

Nat ice is about 88 cents per oz of alcohol.
Costco one is about 91 cents per oz of alcohol.

Miller Fortune is a good bang for the buck beer. Its about $9.49 a twelve pack 6.9% ABV. About 0.95 cents per ounce.

If you're just trying to get drunk for cheap I don't think you can top cheap liquor. 1.75L 80 proof are like $10.

Taste is subjective. I find most IPAs to be swill lower than the cheapest beer. IMHO they cover up cheap swill with bitterness. Give me a nice Belgian, Porter, or Stout any day of the week. I'd even rate a good Pilsner above an IPA.

But sometimes you want some non pretentious "Beer" and the cheaper stuff fills that void quite nicely.

I cant get drunk off cheap beer..i get bloated. Id go for hard stuff...a giant jug of vodka with club soda if going cheap...slice of lemon or lime for taste.

Same here. It gives me a horrible bloated stomach ache,plus it's like drinking rancid dirt. I honestly don't see how someone can truly enjoy drinking cheap beer.

What gets me is these guys spend a $100 a month on beer and then go to Harbor Freight for tools.

When I was penniless taste wasn't in my mind, whatever I could get my hand on was okay. When there are few coins in my pocket then taste is either at the top or near the top of my shopping list.

I don't spend a lot of money on clothes or shoes, 3-4 pairs of jean (8-10/pair) would lasted me 4-5 years, 2 pairs of cheap shoes of $10-15 a pair would lasted the same 4-5 years. Few cheap shirts at no more than $30-50 for 4-5 years.

Very little money wasted on clothing afford me a little better tasting food and drink.

I'm probably the only 21 year old out there that has never drinken before.
