I typically check the ATF level in my 2007 Civic LX by driving for about 15 minutes, shutting the engine off and then checking the dipstick about one minute later. The level is almost exactly even with the full mark on the dipstick when I follow these steps. This is verbatim how Honda says to check the ATF level.

The vehicle came from the factory with the transmission overfilled by ~1/4 quart. I am wondering if this was done to allow the transmission to maintain adequate fluid circulation as it reaches operating temperature? The ATF level increases as it heats up, which leaves me wondering if Honda overfilled the transmission to allow for better circulation during the first few minutes of operation each day?

Should I overfill the transmission by 1/4 quart to mirror what Honda did at the factory?

I have a 2001 and don't remember the level being anywhere more than completely full. Perhaps the new AT is designed to handle this.
I only check my ATF once every 6 months or less. So far (knocks on wood) it hasn't leaked in 118k, so I know it's not going anywhere. I use Amsoil ATF.
I'd follow the shift quality and whatever works for your personal happiness, do it. A quarter of a quart shouldn't affect things.

DO NOT OVERFILL an Auto Transmission, this will cause serious problem

actually the transmission oil level is different when the car is cold/hot, at cold the dipstick goes lower and when hot it goes a little bit higher, but as long as u stay in the range then it will be fine, if there's a little bit overfill then it's ok too

but 3 qts of ATF will be a safe bet
