I completed my 2nd drain and fill with Amsoil ATF this afternoon. If my calculation is correct, I should now have 4 quarts of Amsoil ATF and 2.3 quarts of Honda Z1 in my Civic.

I noticed during the first drain and fill that Honda had overfilled my transmission with Z1 at the factory. It looked as though there was about 1/4 quart of additional ATF based on the fluid that drained out, which I measured.

A few quick questions:

1) Honda says to shut off the engine, wait one minute and then check the ATF level. I typically do this with the engine up to full temperature. Is this the best way?

2) Should I overfill the transmission by 1/4 quart of Amsoil ATF to match what Honda did with Z1 in the factory? I have been topping off the ATF level to line up with the full indication on the dipstick.

3) One other question. Can you check the ATF level on a cold transmission? It appears as though the level indication on the dipstick is even with the "Low" mark when I check the transmission cold. Why can't this method be used to confirm the level at home?
