Car is listed as running 5-20 in owners manual & on oil fill cap. I just bought the car here acouple weeks ago & am running Pennzoil Pure Plus Ultra 5-20 with a Fram Ultra for its initial run. Comtemplating running Mobils 0-40 when the OLM reaches 10% which should take me into summer time. Keep hearing soooo many positive comments/feedback about Mobils 0-40. What are BITOGs thoughts/feelings on switching over to this golden oil for my Acura in signature?

No reason to switch to that oil unless you're modified, the proper 5w20 is the correct viscosity for protection of the stock engine.

Mobil 1 0W40 is an awesome oil but it's overly thick at all temperatures compared to a proper 5w20 and completely unnecessary here.

No, If you are interested in M1 oils then M1 0-20. Use the wt the engine builders spec for.

Plenty of outstanding oils in the specific grade.

No doubt M1 0W-40 is a great oil, but it is no more a one size fits all oil than TGMO is.

Stick with what you are using now

The 0w40 is good, but not for this application.

Pennzoil Ultra and a Fram Ultra - I don't think you can improve upon that. Exactly what I would be using too.

Even though speced for 0w-20 or 5w-20, if you want to go heavier, don't go higher than a 0w-30 or 5w-30. Better winter starts too if you don't go to a 0w-40. Engine will be fine on any of those weights. This is true because that car is 9 years old and the clearances are a bit wider, so going to a slightly heavier (hot viscosity) oil isn't a bad idea.

why? do you have large stash of it?

Run it if you like, it certainly won't hurt anything!
You might 'suffer' a fuel economy loss of half-an-MPG (if that.)

If you're worried about CAFE 'inspired' overly thin oil, look for an oil with an HTHS of at least 3.0, 3.5 if you 'want to be sure.' Any Xw-30 oil would qualify.

The Honda v6 in my Odyssey has run on 30 and 40 (summer) grades for the last 4 years...used up a left over jug of 5w40 M1 TDT once... no noticeable difference.

Runs like a top, burns 1/2 as much oil compared to 20 grades... and hasn't blown up yet... 110 000 miles.
