Hey guys... As you can see in my signature I have two cars and using two different oils. I would like to consolidate to using one of the oils. What are your opinions having both on the Rotella? (does not meet Porsche engine specs but I am a fan of the HDEO's and have used it in other high performance cars. I also like using the HDEO's in the Rover. A big truck that weighs a lot and sees a lot of driving time. The 911 is a weekend warrior.) Using the Ultra on both makes most sense but I want to hear some of your thoughts...

Well I work for Shell and rather use our own products

You mean you're not a closet Chevron user?

Good price and availability.

I started using the Rotella products in several vehicles including a turbo motorcycle and I really like the stuff and it is a very good price. I don't know much about a Porsche or a Land Rover, but I think if this oil is holding up in my bike, it would easily hold up in either of them. However, what the warranty accepts or recommends is another story which I know nothing about on those cars.

It's a 4.6 V8. Mobil's website recommends Mobil 1 0w-40 for this application, so I'm guessing the base requirement is ACEA A3, but that's just a hunch. Based on this though, I would run Pennzoil Ultra 5w-40 in both cars.

Thanks for all the replies everyone! We'll see how I feel when the oil change comes around. I may just stick with what I've been doing, just hate to thrown down $90 in just oil for each car since breaking open cases is a no, no.

Let me guess, if you worked for Shell and got great discounts on PU, you'd still be buying M1 at full price?

I'd just keep a few 5qt jugs of each oil around. In the event that either vehicle needed oil and its "specific" type wasn't in stock in my garage I'd just substitute oil for the other.

It's not like they both take the same filter, too.

No need to guess. I don't work for Shell, however the machine shop I used to work for(I'm retired now sort of)did do some work for the Shell refinery in Woodriver, Il. Also I do some work on the side, and welded for a company from Ohio for the same refinery(now Connoco-Phillips).
