I was considering using the OEM Honda filter for a 2002 Civic EX. The filter is made my "Filtech" part number 15400-PLM-A01. I came across this review of the OEM filter (15400-POH-305) which is what the A01 replace. I have seen both filter cut open and they are not identical, but still not sure about the A01 filter, espectially about how the media is worse than the fram (on the 305) Should i go with it or go another route?

Here's the quote from the review

"This filter looks identical to the Toyo Roki-made JDM filter at first glance- externally the same construction, the only indicator is the "FILTECH" stamped on the outside (a large US manufacturer of filters under various brand names). Internally it's *almost* identical to the JDM filter- steel end caps, steel bypass valve. What makes it stand out as different is the radically different filter media. The material on the Japanese filter looked like the STP or Bosch units. The US media looks much, much worse than the Fram. The media is noticeably "fuzzy" with small fibers protruding out from every angle. While the filter itself is constructed very well (like the Japanese one), the furry nature of the media makes me question how long it lasts and what it will release into the oil system. It also has the least surface area of all the Honda filters (though only a few inches less than the Canadian one)"

Silver02EX:
Don't believe everything you read. The "fuzzy" media is actually better because it has some depth. In other words, it can hold more dirt/particulate than a flat paper media. Once the surface area of paper media is covered, it is fully clogged. With the "fuzzy" media, the larger particulate is held off the filter slightly, for more particulate capacity and less pressure drop.

The Filtech filters are very well made. The small A01 filter actually packs a lot of filter area into a small space. If I remember correctly, it also has a silicon ADBV and is wrapped in plastic to keep contaminants out until you need it. You will be well served using this filter.

What is the cost for the Filtech oil filters ??

Why not use an oversized Purolator 24458 filter for $2.49. I use this filter on my wife's Honda and its twice the size of the Filtech.

I think it's $6 at my local Honda dealer. Which is around the same price as a Wix or a Pureone filter around this area.

Well I went to Honda the other day to see if I can pick up a couple of the Filtech filter (A01) The parts guy went in the back and found only one, it didn't have the plactic over on it like the rest of the filter, so i'm not sure if I trust it. Now I have to find a different dealer or brand of filter.

This is my first post here though I have lurked for years... glad to finally be aboard.

I get around the Midwest frequently - lately I have found only FRAM/Honeywell at various Honda dealerships in WI, MI, IN and OH.

I called Filtech direct and learned that they only sell the filters to Honda AND they do not sell an equivalent "house" filter.

Last month I bought 20 Filtechs from H and A accessories in California. If you call Bill before you order (they only accept online orders) he will let you know if he has any Filtechs in stock.

Good Luck!

I ordered a few things from them in the past, great customer service. I'll have to give them a try. Since I live in the Seattle area there are about 4-5 Honda dealer within a 30 mile radius. I'm sure one of them will have the Filtech.
