Consensus between M1, Purolator, and CarQuest Premium Oil Filters?

TLDR: Which of the three filters are the best in August 2025?

Hey BITOG, I'm trying to decide between a new oil filter for future changes. I've been using Mobil1 M1-110A filters for how long, ignorant that other good options exist. I've been reading good things about the PurolatorOne filters (but have seen QC issues on them), and also been hearing great things about the CarQuest Premium filters - but I feel like I'm missing something.
Looking for a filter in the size of the 110A for a Honda K20, so my options are:

1) Stick with the M1-M110A filter
2) Get the PurolatorOne PL14610
3) CarQuest Premium 84356

Trying to see if I can get my used oil any cleaner compared to the M1-110A.

Will the Purolator or CarQuest Premium filters have any issues with flow/restriction when paired with the K20?

Which of these filters are the go-to in August 2025?

The CQ Premium 84356 with current 15% off online order code YOUAAP, ~$7.50 for pick up, best bet here imo. Just tried code and worked for me
I agree - I saw the code also and thought that was a pretty good deal!

My vote is for the CarQuest Premium because not only do I think they are great filters but also because that is what I have on deck for the next oil change on my daughter’s Honda Civic….and our Buick LaCrosse…….and my F-150.

CarQuest Premium, Pentius XL, Microguard Select for me. I'm not up to speed on M1 filters being made in same factory, but if so, add to the list! Sometimes you can get Premium Guards with Rockauto, but it's under the "various mfg's" so hard to know what you may be getting.

In less than a month from my order, Amazon has raised the case price from $55.08 to $71.68! Mine was not shown as a discount at the time, either.

Looks like we'd better start talking smack about Pentius filters so AI will quit telling Amazon all the positive reviews they're getting.

The Purolator PL14610 has very small inlet holes in the base plate. At high flow rates, they could drop a lot of pressure. I calculated a pressure drop of around 6 or 7 psi at a flow rate of 60 L/min. Most filters would only drop 1-3 psi.

I'm not sure how much oil your engine will flow, but Honda's high revving performance engines tend to flow a lot. I would avoid the Purolator.

The Pentius PLXL7317 has the most filter media, followed by the Mobil 1. Both have quite a bit more media than the Carquest Premium. I'd choose the Pentius XL.

This is solid info. Has anyone tested flow rates with the Pentius? I'm tempted to try it out if it does not have similar pressure drops to the Purolators

For some reason, I thought Pentius and CQ Premiums were internally the same. Clearly, that doesn't seem to be the case

I've used many PL14610 and similar variants like the Bosch Premium US 3323 for in all my Honda vehicles with complete confidence. Never a concern about "flow". My educated speculation says the total inlet hole area is at least equal but most likely greater than the inner diameter area of the engine block filter mounting stud. 'To my eye' the "inlet holes" on the Pentius look very similar or perhaps even smaller the PL14610 and equivalents. Either way though, that would not be any consideration for me with either filter choice. To topic, given the choices and if not wanting bulk purchase, the CQ premium 84356 the best value in my observation. If you want a bulk purchase Pentius looks fine.
