Been running Dex VI in an AW 4-speed (Volvo 850) for the better part of a year now. It shifts better now than it ever has in recent memory, and this tranny is fast approaching 200k.
If the box is still functioning properly, I see no reason to use a conventional Dex III fluid, for the reasons W-wolf has already stated.
