Drained and filled my Xfer case a couple hundred miles ago with Dex VI. The reason I did this is because Dex III is listed as spec in my Haynes manual, and VI supercedes III...

Now I see people are running ATF+4, and that the owners manual calls for it.

What would you guys do? Is Dex VI suitable, or should I drain and use ATF+4?

I believe the case is a NP244??? AWD 4.7

Stick with OEM, the price difference between DexVI and ATF+4 is insignificant. What you do get by sticking with ATF+4 is peace of mind.

DexVI may not be suitable, check the viscosities to be sure!!!

Gm issued a TSB saying to not use Dex VI in transfer cases and manual transmissions. Dex VI is backwards-compatible with Dex III ONLY for automatic transmissions. They now have a new part # for those applications, which I believe is simply Dex III in a different bottle.

yes

As far as I know Chrysler is still ATF and GM is dexron. Dodge = Chrysler

+1 for ATF+4

-1 billion for haynes/chilton

get a factory service manual (the best) or all data diy.

ATF+4 or dex3, thats what the manual says.
It also states that the oci is twice as long
with +4 compared to dex3 which seems plausible since the +4
was and in some ways still are a superior atf for
transmissions that can accept its friction properties.

OK thanks everyone for their input. I hope it doesn't hurt to run it in there for another couple hundred miles or so because it will be another week or two till I can get to putting +4 in it.

Considering the transfer case really only gets a work out when you are in 4 wheel drive. I would think you would be okay as long as you don't use 4 wheel drive that much.
