concerns about AI; what scares me

Several of the latest models do not think in words but in their own language that humans cannot read or understand.
This actually has already happened.
That is in both links, I offered up.

And he authors of the book are 2 of the 3 foremost AI experts of their day who quit their postions at Open AI etc to warn about AI.
The 3rd guy is Dr Hinton and he says the same thing.
You do understand there is an underlying programming code for these AI tools that's not the same as the language they use to communicate with, right?

Did you ever see the movie "2001 a Space Odyssey" ? Made in 1968, this movie anticipated AI gone awry.

AI computer HAL9000 ran everything on a space mission to Jupiter. When the computer began to malfunction, the astronauts planned to shut it down. The computer read the astronaut's lips, learning of their plan. To save itself from being shut down, HAL9000 attempted to kill all the astronauts. One managed to survive and shut the computer down. As he was shutting off its systems, the computer was pleading and expressing fear, like the fear of death.

Yeah, the concept is far from new, but OP is acting like he found a fountain of hidden knowledge or something.

Anyway, I’m not worried about AI exterminating humans

I do think it’s a legitimate concern when enemy countries like China or Russia have AI that might battle our AI someday. In that case, the winner of the war will probably be known in a couple minutes.

AI is needed y’all. With Boomers leaving the workforce in mass there is a huge labor shortage right now and an even big one looming in the future. Jobs will certainly change but they won’t “go away.” It’s still only a computer at the end of the day.

Folks -

Time and time again, we have to remind you all to refrain from bickering and childish behavior, especially when it comes to mature topics like AI.

Knock it off or the thread gets locked.

You've been warned.

Stephen Hawking warned it could be bad for humanity. He also said it could be good if used and controlled properly.

Finally someone who understands the real problem. While Russia does not have the resources, China does.
And China has the will, as evidenced by their education prowess. America seems to complain about the costs...

AI is a tool. You can choose to develop and use a tool in many ways.
