Iam sure there are alot of concealed weapon permit carriers on this "Real man" site. How often does everyone really exercise the right and carry a gun all the time? Iam sure the policemen on this site do but noone is gonna hassle you, because you can flash a badge and everything is cool. Recently a woman was stabbed to death in a Dennys in Orlando, a waitress, in a tourist part of town( not a bad part) by her Ex husband and no one helped or stopped or even attempted to stop the guy from leaving, hes still at large, this is with a full restruant. Most callers to the radio show said they carry a gun and would have stopped him, but I have to ask myself how many non law enforcement personal really carry a gun. I have a permit and seldom carry a gun, theres always one in the truck/car but in Florida its just hard to conceal a gun in shorts/t shirt and sandles. Plus anytime I go out to a restraunt, you go out a bar and cant carry the gun in the bar. Truth is only time I carry one is when Iam someplace I shouldnt be like in a bad place of Tampa or Orlando and think I may need it, otherwise its in the truck. So how many people here really never leave home without it? One last note, I cannot understand how any MAN in that Dennys can lve with himself, I can say without doubt, I would have attacked that man with or without a gun, probably a chair would have been my first choice, but I would not have let that man stab that woman to death in front of me without a confrontation.

Had my CCW the first 4 year license period after Arkansas passed carry law. Carried 95% of the time. When renewal time came, I'd decided if done properly, no one would ever know I was carring anyhow and if truly needed a slap on the wrist for no permit was small potatoes! Seldom carry now because I seldom go to any "bad parts" of any town.

No idea what I'd have done in situation you mention, but like to think I'd have attempted intervention.

I carry about 85% of the time. I've got all sorts of holsters/rigs. Currently having great results with the 5.11 Tactical Jeans with a hidden pocket in front for my gun. You can have your shirt tucked in and still get to it. Otherwise, I'll use a Smart Carry, fanny pack, or IWH.

Almostgone - I can't see why you would not renew your permit. If you get caught without it - it's bigger trouble than you may realize.

A more interesting question, IMO, is "Have you ever felt a need to draw your weapon, and were you actually prepared to use it?" That changes the game completely.

I've never had a need to draw my weapon on anyone, and hope to G0D that I never do.

I've been very very close to drawing my gun one one occasion. Had the other guy actually come up out of his car with a gun in his hand, I would have shot him. Luckily for him he dropped it on his seat when he saw I had my hand on my pistol.

Been very comforted by its presence on several other occasions.

WOW... You guys get ALL the breaks. Here in Chi-Town (within cook county) you can't LEGALLY have a weapon in your home.

Ive had my hand on it but never drew, Ive made up my mind once the gun comes out Iam firing, no freeze, stop, no warning. I will exhaust every option to get out of the situation, but there is too big a chance of you losing your gun or giving them the option of a attacking.

The main reason I got my CHL was for vacations, usually trailering in the campgrounds. Being away from home while carrying is comforting. Our firearms instructor taught about the civil/criminal issues when a firearm is used/not used. About 11% of the TX population is legally eligible for concealed carry. Luckily I have not even been close to reaching for a gun in a situation. My neighbor has actually "drawn down" on trespassing hunters who were on his land. He beat the charges the trespassers filed on him every time!

"About 11% of the TX population is legally eligible for concealed carry"

Please explain....I'd like to know more about this. I'm interesting in buying a .38 and obtaining a license.

I thought everyone in Texas already carried a gun. Its probably a state like West Virginia were anyone can carry a handgun openly, but they dont like you to conceal them. Pa was the same way, we would ride dirt bikes while carrying autos in side holsters go in bars, convenience stores whatever, noone said or cared, but that was 5 years ago, alot probably changed.

My daughter fussed at me recently because I carried to a local supermarket. I told her "well, you never know what might happen". About an hour after we had left, there was a drive-by shooting there, so that pretty much put that argument to rest. I've never been involved in a self-defense situation, but "you never know".

Allways thought Texans a little "nutty",,,,but surely 89% aren't psychos,felons,wifebeaters,etc.???????

I agree. That percentage doesn't sound right.

Have my GA permit since '96 and still maintain my CT permit (since '91). Only took a pistol in the car with me (just in case) for a handful of times, otherwise I don't carry.

Got the permits should the need ever arise. Boy Scouts motto: "Be prepared"

As far as getting a CCW in Texas -it's easy. Take the class, qualify on the range, send in your paperwork and money and you get it in about 2-4 weeks. If you're a law abiding person, have no felonys or certain misdeanors, you're good to go. Check out the Texas DPS website and you'll learn all you need to know.
