This is not meant to be a " my oil is better than your oil" thread, but im trying to compare the spec on these two oil and both brands of 5w30 and 0w20. I couldnt find specs for PU on the penzoil website. I use amsoil SS 5w30 in the buick and change once a year using the amsoil filter. The buick is used for short trip mostly in town driving. Its is driven about 7000 miles a year. The other car is a 2013 subaru outback and uses xl0w20 same yearly milage andi use the oem filter. The oci is done by months not milage it is under warranty yet. I am a perferred customer with amsoil. I am just curious to see how the oil compare to each other.

Well, 1st, you have to let us know which Amsoil. ASL, XL line or OE line??

Withe the exception of NOACK they are very similar. So in the climate I live in, northeat wisconsin, hot summers cold winters what numbers should i be looking at?

Man that Ultra is something else, I'd love to do a run of 10w30 in my Jeep but I've got so much oil I don't know when I'd get to it.

OP both Amsoil and Ultra are top tier oils you'll do well with whichever you prefer, although I've not seen much evidence you get anything with XL other than a lighter wallet than OE. And both are probably lesser oils than Ultra, you'd need to jump to the Sig series to be more "apples to apples" for comparison.

JMO.

Well i went out to install my fumoto valve on the buick and tried to do it quickly, but the valve wouldnt fit. Due to the thread orientation i had to let the oil drain. While letting the cold oil drain i ran and picked up so PU 5w30.

Does ultra even come in a 0w-20. I thought just pp did.
Amsoil is great stuff, one of the best available and I would use the SSO line and run it out to their 25000 mile interval, testing the oil every 5000 miles for the first couple of sump loads until I was certain that the oil was able to go that far based on the data acquired.
If you aren't going to stretch the interval to get the most from your dollar spent then I would try PU/PP at a 10000 mile interval with a uoa at 5000 miles until a trend was determined and the data interpreted, then make a mileage determination from there.

Since Amsoil SS is only warrantied for one year or 25k miles, whichever occurs first, 7000 miles in one year on that oil and Amsoil Oil Filter is a waste of money.

Just use PP, OEM or Wix filters and be done...
