Colonial Pipeline stopping all operations due to cyberattack

I disliked them when they came out, funny thing is, I'm still using the same can 10 years later. I lost the cap that goes over it but other than, it's been fine. Spring loaded, snaps shut when not in use--I used to store my gas outside (under the deck) and it was just fine. I think it helps prevent gas going stale too. I've stopped hating it, as it works just fine for light OPE usage (now if I had to dump 5 gallons at time into a tank I'd hate it).

Anyhow. How'd you almost lose a house to this? It's a plastic can, unless if you crack it or knock it over, it shouldn't leak.
I'm in a log cabin and I have walk under front porch storage, My Mower and snowblower are under there - along with an old canoe.

A 2.5gal "can" of Winter gas was left under there and early summer when I was sitting on the porch I heard a little whistling.
then I smelled gas vapours. Later when getting a rake out from under the porch I saw the gas can - it was bloated and round and had tipped over and was leaking little bit. I vented it and a large volume of vapours escaped. I think it would have split or popped a cap if it got any warmer.
Back then I was an occasional smoker and I would smoke on the front porch on the porch swing - right above the gas can below !

I think there's another container in the laundry basket. Not sure why anyone needs the basket.
The bottom of the basket looks to be cut off by the hood of the vehicle . Possibly a plastic bag in it ? Wonder if she has BOUNCE in the car to cover the smell of gas and to help reduce electrical charge .

Now, why would you think our electric grid is on the grid? Why don't we just let things go silo? Because it won't work, you have to let it work as a whole system to avoid blackout and in sync. The same goes for pipeline, it is not one straight line but rather a web of pipes go together.

From the other locked thread. This is how it used to be done, they used the phone: :ROFLMAO:

And this video has the Control Room from good 'ol Bruce 1 which is now 816MWe (it was 750 in the vid):

This shows the (newer) Darlington Control Room at 5:02:

Probably not because of it, but rather if someone forgot to park and brake the car may roll away, yanking the gas dispenser off and then spill the whole station with fuel and ignite.

Trivia: Gas dispensers are connected to the underground pipes with "shear valves", which are designed to close when they break away.

Oh boy this will be fun. They just set up encryption on our work computers this week and have done several things already to increase security. I am sure this will make for more fun stuff to come.
This should have been done years ago, at every organization and everyone at home too, but people can't be bothered.

How about this for a crazy claim? I saw one claim that Colonial didn't stop pipeline operations because they were afraid that without operating computer systems, they wouldn't get paid. However, I was under the impression that they were still operating their bulk fuel terminals from existing inventories.
