Cold water wet shave?

Anyone try this? I did this morning after researching ways to reduce irritation, and I must say, it works great! Smoother, less irritation, much less redness and razor bumps, less facial drying.

Kind of throws modern shaving practices out the window, but in theory, it does make sense. It makes your whiskers stand up more and there is less blood near your skins surface with cold water, so less irritation.

Ive never used shaving cream. Always just water, generally during or after a shower (dont even use a mirror), but sometimes in the am if I forgot.

On a dry am face, it can irritate a bit more, but cold water shaving is just fine.

+1 I've been shaving in the shower for years now..never looked back. Oddly, even cheap razors work well for many months.

Ok, What is it if you just slap shaving cream on a dry face?

I shave with an old school single edge safety razor. Cold water shaving does help reduce irritation. However, I only use cold water in the summer months. I'm personally more comfortable with a nice hot shave on a cold morning.

I used cold water intermittently for several years. Clean, hot water equaled rest and relaxation. So it was a treat. But now, perhaps a cold water shave would be bracing. I am going to try.

But the line is drawn at shaving. No cold water showers. I use the unheated basement for my shower to keep from awakening the wife at o'dark30.

I don't shave anymore. Saves money. Haha anyway. When I did shave daily I would take a shower, clean face hot water. Cold water to rinse then shave. Never had razor burn, never had a cut.

I get a closer shave with warm water.

For those that shave in the shower, try conditioner in lieu of shave soap or shaving cream.

I've found that I get many of those benefits from a very cold rinse after a normal hot water shave. I even usually avoid that, since I'm a baby about cold water.

Whelp, I tried it this morning and it worked very well. I was surprised. Normally, I have an area that's red afterwards including areas on my neck. A few people have even commented on my red neck.

So when I wet the shaver, should I use cold or hot water to rinse the shaver as I go? I used cold water for that as well.

I used cold to rinse the shaver. It actually made clearing out whiskers from the razor easier, which was surprising to me.

Switched to philips electric, but hot and shaving cream for me. Anything else was a no go.

Shaving is my relaxation time, which is to say I'm really into it...I shave with double edge razors, I whip up my own shaving cream or soap, and I'm NOT shaving with cold water! That would be like being in the middle of a wet dream and just before the most crucial part, someone wakes you up...it's just not right!

I usually use warm water for that part, but I can't see that part mattering too much. The cold face rinse after is the key in my view.

Electric razor? I haven't been able to use an electric razor since high school. My beard is just too heavy...I could shave in the morning with an electric, and by afternoon, I need another shave...I've been wet shaving with blades now for over 30 years...that's the only way I can get a close shave...and double edge razors are the only way to go...excellent shave and the blades are super cheap compared to the multi-blade catridges...
