Coffee -- Your current Brew(er) and grinder

UPDATE...........
Cleaning my grinder definitely made a difference, but I am not where I want to be. This morning I opened a new bag on Dunkin Donuts beans. What I got out just isn't as good a a cup of coffee I buy at a DD. I guess I need to experiment more with time and temp and grinds. However I originally thought the combination French Press and grinding my own beans would be a simple way to get a good cup of coffee. Turns out it's more complicated than I thought and I'm giving second thoughts to a drip coffee maker. Maybe an AIO maker? I'm looking for the best combo of simplicity and quality of coffee in return.
Have you tried pour over?

Still using this stuff from Italy…

No I have not. maybe I'll look into that. But again I'm sure I'll have to experiment with grinding. I just may buy pre-ground and try again with the French Press. I am looking for simplicity but a good cup of joe to boot.

French press. Hand grinder. Demitass cup. Grind what I need for the morning wake up. My wife loves Green Mountain Dark Magic pods. Straight up. I gotta have a hint of sugar and a drop of half and half. There is no right or wrong when it comes to coffee.

WMF is one of my my favorite brands. I have some of their pots and pans and they’re very well-made.
Yeah, though it's a bit beaten up (hey-it's older than me) but still works just perfect.
I bought it about 35 years ago, and with some luck I never need to buy an other coffee maker till I die.
The kind of quality I like.

What don't you like about your French press method?
Well right now I'm just not getting out coffee as good as a DD or Starbucks.
Maybe that's asking too much but I;m not talking about anything fancy like a latte or such. Just coffee with cream, no sugar.

Part of my problem is I've been using the French Press for a few years now, but I used it to make my own versions of Bulletproof coffee by adding butter and MCT oil. I've also used Coconut milk. All of these things flavored the coffee. Now that I'm just trying straight coffee with just a bit of half and half, it's not measuring up to the equvalent of what I buy at a coffee shop.

Too bitter? Too acid?

I'm thinking dwell time, hence suggesting pour over.

One of you guys mentioned the shower head on the Moccamaster as a weak point. I thought the same for awhile but it actually seems that's not the case. I have observed it routinely for quite awhile and I've never brewed a pot where the grounds were not completely soaked. Could the design be improved? Perhaps. Others seem to think so.
mine doesnt have that just open top

On my kitchen counter at the moment, as part of my rotation, Lavazza ECL:

Espresso cartridges come in both single or double shot, so all I have to do is pull off the spout when brewing just one.

My current/permanent setup no doubt as I get superb espresso from it day after day. Focus these days is green coffee selection and bringing it to life in my home built roaster. Goes beyond a hobby and is actually a daily lifestyle/addiction at this point.

I just upped my weekend coffee game by going to the Hario Skerton Pro.
I never ground beans before, and it definitely made a difference. I bought
the 8 O'Clock original beans as my first experiment. I am impressed, and I'm
looking forward to experimenting with other beans in the future.
I just purchased a Hario Skerton Pro, a Hario V60 set, and a Hario scale. I am watching YouTube videos to try and learn this pour over method. I just watched an interesting video about the Skerton Pro on how to set the zero point.

Yea. I have the Hario Skerton. Identical to the one you’ve pictured. Perfect for a couple of French press to start your day.

Try some of this. Especially good in the AM after long cold night camping out.

Hahaha! When I was in the military in the late 80's I worked for an old Vietnam Vet SSgt who drank his coffee everyday from an old canteen cup. Was the most disgusting thing imaginable! He went on leave once and I thought I'd surprise him and clean his cup while he was gone. When I returned he was irate! He told me never to touch his cup again. He said it took him years to get that cup the way he wanted it and if he was ever in a pinch, all he had to do was add some hot water and he had instant coffee!

I can even begin to describe how disgusting that cup was.

Beats chewing tobacco.

Beats chewing tobacco.
My room mate had a friend who used to spit chewing tobacco into an empty Coke can... he left it on the coffee table when he left. Luckily no one drank out of it. I told him if I ever caught him doing that in our house again, I was going to throw him out the window.
