I make Espresso/Cappuccino at home with Lavazza Espresso too. I like these flavors: Caffe Espresso, Qualita Rossa and Crema E Gusto. I bought Lavazza Espresso from Amazon when it was on sale for less than anywhere else.
 
How do you guys store your coffee when you buy the big bags. I normally buy the two or three pound beans. I pour about a quart into my little coffee canister. It is a real coffee canister that is sealed. Then i wrap the bag up real good and put it in the garage in the winter, or in the freezer in the summer.

Not really. There are two opinions on that. One of the local roaster companies (Kaladi Brothers) sells their coffee from the special freezers in grocery stores. http://www.kaladi.com/coffee_difference.cfm
You do not want to grind frozen coffee (less flavorful brew), but for the long term storage freezing is the best. I keep the Costco bag in the freezer, and keep about half a pound in the burr grinder hopper, ready to use. The best of both worlds.

Yes, there is, especially if you need a very fine grind for espresso and such. Extra time in the grinder does heat the beans. As another poster said, consistency is also a key. With a Cuisinart grinder I have a choice of 15-20 different size grinds. Fine is not always the best, cheaper coffees taste bitter and more acidic with too fine of a grind.

Yes Dunkin Donuts is the best...I am so glad they are on every corner down here and on the Florida Turnpike....I am so glad the Turnpike got rid of all those nasty Starbucks.

Folgers has to be the worst coffee I ever had in my life....I never knew coffee could be so bad....The smell of it makes me noxouis...When I first moved into my condo I found 12 cans of Flogers in one of the cabinets...I gave them all away and there weren't many takers.

I get Maxwell House when its on sale other wise its Dunkin Donuts...McDonald's coffee is overall good.

Since you can not figure out what I said I meant to say Folgers=Yuck....Not do you understand...That is just IMHO about Folgers.
 
Since the last coffee thread, several single origin coffee from Trader Joe's have peaked my interest. Their Kauwai Hawaiian is quite good, earthy like a Sumatran. The Fair trade organic Guatamaulan was really good, but hard to find in stock. The biggest difference in my coffee lately has been the conical burr grinder I got for a gift last November. It really does make a difference over a blade grinder.
 
If you have a costco nearby, you should give the Don Pablos a try. its about the same price as 8 oclock from WM. 9.99 dollars for 2 lb bag. They are fairly new but it is a really good "regular" coffee. My family often comments on how good and fresh the coffee tastes when they come and visit. It is a little darker than 8 oclock, but not much. Costco also sells the Dunkin Doughnuts coffee in the 2 lb bag pre ground that is pretty good. I like it better than 8 oclock but not as much as Don Pablos. 8 oclock regular, Dunckin Doughnuts, Don Pablos, and Millstone Bed and breakfast blend are my favorite "regular" coffees.

Same here, I LOVE my Keurig. I have the new Platinum quiet verson. Fresh cup every cup and GREAT coffee selections. I to will never be going back to drip brewers again ...


These machines generate waste materials. Not the "green" direction to go. Costly. Cant argue the convenience though.

I think Maxwell House is made from horse barn floor sweepings. Oh, that would add TOOO MUCH flavor

That is exactly how I feel about Starbucks coffee.

Would like to try out one of the burr grinders. Any suggestions on a good one at a reasonable price. Will it plainly indicate on the package that it is in fact a burr grinder?

I've had the pleasure to try Keurig on several occasions. Like most things you either love it or hate it.

I'll stick with a regular coffee maker personnally.
