How often (really) do you clean your coffee maker?

What do you use - a paper towel to wipe out the water holding vessel, run a Vinegar solution, different, neither or both?

Whenever it gets dirty. Mine gets used daily sometimes 2x a day to make 6-8 cups of coffee. It seems to do a decent job at keeping itself clean. I rinse it out and use some dish soap on brush to sanitize, even though I could get way with use a simple rinse with water. It's surprisingly clean.

The pot get a good soak with vinegar when there is some build up happening (usually every 2 months or so) but gets the usually soap wash every few days / week.

Like I said, seems to stay clean all on its own.

Every 100 hours with a good shot of Kreen.

We have a Keurig and don't really clean it. I'll run a cycle or two without a k cup in place every so often and will put the water reservoir in the dish washer once every 3-6 months. With our old drip coffee maker we would run coffee maker cleaner (powder mixed in with the water), but didn't do it with any frequency as it did not get used much.

Get one of those big cheap white vinegar gallons from the grocery store. Every couple of months pour some in with water and let it brew to empty. 30/70, 40/60 white vinegar/water. Then a couple of rinse brews. Still have to wash it a little but everything is much looser, cleans the Tap Water Mineral Deposits out of the pump, heater and hoses.

I have my current espresso machine for about 6 years, never clean the water reservoir nor the machine, I only clean the coffee basket once every 3-4 weeks in the dish washer. But I do clean the steam wand every day by immerse it in a cup of water and let the steam run for several seconds. I use the espresso machine about once a day, so the total uses is more than 2,000 times already and it's still running strong.

By the way, I only use RO water in the espresso machine.

Run a Vinegar and water mix about once a year. I use filtered water in both Bunn's. Both are multi-years old so it must be often enough. Just rinse a few cycles till you cant smell vinegar any longer.

Vinegar, 1/2 pot full, when the vinegar starts to drip out hot, unplug the coffee maker and let it sit about 10 min , then plug it back in and finish the vinegar. Rinse with another run of water.

Urnex Cafiza powder every so often, both in the espresso maker for backflushing and in the Thermos. It foams away the oil residue from making coffee and breaks up milk protein deposits in the Thermos.

This is the way I have been cleaning mine, but I run only RO water in it.

Same here, basket in dishwasher every week to get old coffee oils out. Clean the carafe by hand with soap & water.

I used filtered water but our city water is surprisingly soft so minerals aren't a big deal.

I use vinegar in the Kuerig & used to in the bigger pot every now & then.

Use reverse osmosis filtered water and you'll never have to clean it. Mine is 24 years old. R/O or distilled water won't leave the mineral deposits and might make a better tasting cup of coffee to boot.

Also works for steam iron, general cooking, car batteries, coolant mixing, aquariums, etc. I have had an R/O system since 1997.

I use vinegar when I get around to cleaning.

My latest pot lights up one of the buttons when it thinks it's cleaning time. IIRC, thats about every 80 or so cycles.

It's been lit up for some time now. I guess I oughta start moving that direction soon.
