I’ve had the 1.1.1.1 app on my phone for years now. It has never been reliable. I realized the other day that the service was off, and I turned it on. Was ok for a bit. Had to use my maps yesterday, they would not load. Neither apple or Google. Turned out that as soon as I turned off the 1.1.1.1, they worked perfect.

This has been forever. My wife had the same issue years ago, and had to disable to get to her emails for work.

Is it just that reliable? Not intended for full-time use? What’s the deal?

1.1.1.1 is just an alternate DNS server and is considered a good one that's fast and offers some privacy. Had no idea there was an app, but I guess that's the only want to use DNS servers of your own choosing vs the ones your ISP uses or assigns, at least on a phone. I've used that DNS as well as Google's for years by configuring my router to use them.

If you find the app unreliable, I'd get rid of it and set up this DNS in your home router.

The app not only lets you use 1.1.1.1 for DNS, but also lets you use WARP which tunnels your traffic

You may experience issues with that when you have bad/questionable signal, or if certain services are blocking the IP ranges because of excessive spam, etc

I tried WARP but had issues similar to yours plus battery drain then I just manually configured it myself. 1.1.1.2 will give you malware blocking on Cloudflare.

I eventually went with Quad9 9.9.9.9 primary and Cloudflare 1.1.1.2 as secondary on my wifi and phone

Since this is also on my phone, there’s the AC nuke of it being useful when out and about.

No signal issues or anything. As soon as I turned it off in the app, everything worked perfectly. I don’t think Google and Apple Maps are considered spam..

Yes that may be the better bet. But I have to wonder what’s the source of the reliability issue. If 1.1.1.1 fails in the app, why wouldnt they fail in regular use too?

Why 149.112.112.112 secondary? I would think it would be best to have a different provider to be preferable as a back up in case of DNS provider issues .
I've been using this combo for years and never needed a back up. Besides, I don't trust anyone else.

It’s a deprecated app and you should delete it. They are not going to fix it
Huh? They update it still…
