A Brita filter does not remove minerals, which is what builds up in the coffee maker, it just does a marginal job of removing off-flavors and bacteria.

In case of black tea, you shouldn't ever clean the patina (tannin deposits) from a teapot. If you use the same teapot for different types of tea, then yes, you should keep it free of deposits.

I tried the Peroxide yesterday mixed with water and it worked well. Sludge and flaky stuff came out of my coffee maker which I was cleaning with vinegar/water each week.

I cleaned my espresso machine with tea, it seems not cleaning very well. I'll try to buy Hydrogen Peroxide and do the cleaning again next week.

The tannin patina contributes to the flavor of the tea when brewing it. Never heard anybody claiming this about coffee, but I'm primarily a tea drinker.

coffee can leave nasty oils behind that tea doesn't. I also subscribe to not scrubbing the teapot.
