"Flame Trap" is Volvo-speak for PCV system.

You've linked the key part...but there are connectors, seals, etc that go along with it, and the box itself.

My recommendation is a full kit like this: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-pcv-breather-system-kit-s60-turbo-s60turbopcvkit

That way, if something breaks (and it will...we're talking 10+ year old plastic bits), you've got the new part. And reusing seals can lead to leaks...the intake manifold has to come out to do this correctly. And, as I believe I mentioned, you've got to clean the passages from block to crankcase. The breather box has a couple of short hoses that go into two fittings on the block. Those get sludge in them as well...and effectively block the PCV flow. Once the box is off, you can see the sludge in there (in varying degrees...) and you really need to clean down inside them.

If you really want to do it right, get the Oetiker clamp pliers...that FCP kit has Oetiker clamps...which are so quick/nice compared with hose clamps. I bought the pliers, along with a selection of clamps for future use, on Amazon:

Thanks for the link.

The job looks tedious, but not too difficult.

With the plyers, I actually have a set used for PEX pipe. I wonder if it could be used for this too assuming there is enough room.

Thanks for the link.

I am going to change the oil in her car this weekend. Time in use was 6 months/ roughly 4500-5000 miles.

Ill be posting up pictures in the oil filter forum.

I've just got an 850 T5...needs a radiator. Last service in 2013, mileage unknown, but the garage is high end and would've used a good oil...it's got a Bosch filter. Flushed it with engine degreaser....just idling, same time as I ran a flush through the cooling system before removing the radiator. It did slightly inflate the glove at idle, has oil coming from the oil cap. Have read all the bad things about the PVC system, have cleaned out the PTC thing, and blown through the the big hose easily....but the small hose is blocked, so I'm going to run a larger external hose.

Just got the Volvo running with a new radiator. Replaced the small hose going to the PTC valve with a larger one, no more leaking oil filler cap or smoke out the dipstick tube. Glad I didn't get involved in the whole PVC system strip out.
