I'm betting ignitor/coil. The only time my 200k Civic ever quit it was the coil.

I know you said your coil was only 2 months old but...

Does it "sound funny" when cranking? A slipped/broken timing belt will kill the compression and make it sound really different when the starter is turning the engine. So will bent valves :-(

If it sounds normal, then my bet would be the infamous Honda ignitor.

Some Hondas have a relay in the dash which can fail and cause the car to simply die.
This happened to my '99, with my wife driving it.
The funny thing is that it can be an intermitent event.
I drove to where my wife had had the car die, and I got in and strated it right up.
I drove it to my indie Honda tech, since this was a problem that I could find no cause for.
He had a pretty good idea what has happend, and promptly fixed it.
There are times when you can really use an experienced tech.
This was one for me.

just got home from towing the car in and my wife said it hesitated a time or two then just died, kinda like it was out of gas i guess, i tried to crank it up and it sounded normal to me, so who knows

open up the oil filler cap and look at the cam when you start/crank, if you see the cam moving, the timing belt is fine (according to my Honda factory repair manual).

Then take a plug out and touch the metal shell (earth ground) to the valve cover and start, you should see spark if the ignition coil is fine.

If both are fine, probably fuel related, but not sure how do you test it at home.

If you feel little bit more confident, spray slight carb cleaner / throttle body cleaner in the intake and see if the car almost wants to start. If so, then it is the fuel pump (and/or fuel pump relay).

update on the civic, the distributor i had replaced about 3 months ago had gone out, so they put a new one on, nothing like cheap auto parts huh

What brand was it?

Possible Main Relay (controls fuel pump and fuel injection system). When the relay module ages, the solder connections on the circuit board crack. As the temperature rises inside the car, the circuit opens, fuel pump and injectors stop and the car will not restart until the main relay cools. Had this happen to my old '89 Civic Si last year.
