2017 VW Golf All Track Water Pump Replacement

Our 2020 Tiguan, had the housing crap out around the 5 year mark at 32k.

We was low on coolant and on the 2nd time i started to go hunting for the pink crusty. Ours was leaking at the top of the plastic housing, shining a light either by the belts you could have seen the top thru the manifold gaps.

Luckily, the warranty covered it. They did try to milk me for the oil filter housing, which is where a union connects to, they wanted $1200 to do the repair. I refused it because i felt it should have been a while i'm in there, pay for parts and like another hour or 2 of labor. Not $1200 worth.



How much did the repair cost? Just trying to prepare myself for when the warranty doesn't cover it.

Me! After wrenching on bimmers since 1974 (1971 BMW 2002) I've learned that you don't skimp pm mission critical parts such as the cooling system.

Well I do try and buy the part which is the same as the OEM, such as the INA water pump and thermostat housing on my Tiguan. But even so, there are other reputable manufacturers such as Saleri or Graf. They are not inferior to whichever brand the manufacturer may be using at the moment.

Same for my Japanese vehicles. I know that Aisin manufactures the water pump for Toyota, and there’s no reason to pay more for the manufacturer branded part.

INA isn't aftermarket, it's just the OEM supplier. Neither are Graf or Saleri, they're OEM suppliers.

I wouldn't install a Vaico, Rein, or Uro coolant part if I had the choice of a tier 1 OEM supplier.

Sure, but sometimes a manufacturer such as Saleri will make components for vehicles for which they aren't the OEM supplier. Asian manufacturers do the same, Aisin is the OEM manufacturer for my Toyota water pump but they also make a water pump for my old Honda.

I agree with those other manufacturers you note, especially Uro. They were useless for my old BMW.
