I feel for your parents, but that would be the reaction from the dealer service dept of any make/model. Unless the thing is shaking to pieces or the noise is setting off car alarms, they'll say the noise/vibration/harshness is normal. Any oil consumption under 1quart/1000miles is normal and they'll disregard wear material in any filter, claiming that's what a filter is for.
If the engine grenades, they'll replace it. That's about it.
