Hi Everyone,

After long negotiation, I've come across a final offer on the Chrysler 200 I was originally looking to trade my Corolla for:

Car:
http://www.quirkchryslerjeep.com/new/Chrysler/2013-Chrysler-200-629c19a90a0a006401354684141da323.htm

Basically, I qualified for the best financing, and with a 7-year/100k mile warranty from "Resource Automotive" to cover potential Chrysler issues, I would be at $119/mo for 5 years.

What does everyone think? Is this a bad investment with a re-design around the corner? What is the expected reliability (my research is yielding a lot of conflicting info.

Thanks for any input!

+1

Why isn't a Chrysler dealer selling a Chrysler warranty?

If you're going to finance the warranty, I'd spring for the extra couple of bucks a month.

No info given to help you.

The payment says nothing. How much are they giving for the trade? What is the final price of the car?
How much down? What is the rate?
How much is the warranty from "Resource Automotive" Lots of profit in those and many of those have gone BK. I like what the others said. Where is the Chrysler warranty

Hi Everyone, the difference to be financed is $7500 (It's a 63 month, actually).

So THANK YOU for pointing out there is a Chrysler warranty (I did not know such a thing existed, I'm new to this).

I am going to ask tomorrow to get the lifetime Chrysler warranty for that price, or otherwise, I'm going to walk on the car.

What I told the Honda dealership when they offered a extended warranty. "The day I need a extended warranty on a Honda is the day I don't buy a Honda." Looks like you are taking a $6-7k hit on this "upgrade". Should be able to get more out of your Corolla, the reason we bought a new Civic is because 2-3 year old Civics were going for $3-4k of new. Market is hot for fuel efficient used cars, especially with rising gas prices. I think a smartest choice would be sticking with the car you have, especially when mentioning other loans. If you feel its absolutely necessary to "upgrade" I think the best choice would be a Accord LX or Camry LE 4 cylinder. I feel your pain though I have been fighting the new car bug for the last few years. 04 Accord LX Manual Sedan 167k, going to hold on to it until I am force to give it up, repairs near value or totaled.

It's got the pentastar, which is a start.

Current gen (2011+) seem to be aging quite well.....local dealership rarely sees them coming back for warranty work...

Well that's good news, and the Pentastar V6 is a really awesome engine.

Having said all this, they will have to keep the same pricing to get me a MaxCare Unlimited B to B direct from Chrysler, and I'll make the deal.

Otherwise, I will pass.

Cars are not investments, they are depreciating assets. Hence, the importance of getting the best deal possible. On the other hand interest rates are at record lows, but average car prices are way up. To reduce interest cost I'd look into a 48 month term.

As for the re-design who knows, it could nice or a dud. The new Dodge Dart is turning out to be flop if thats any indication of things to come.

To be sure crushing new CAFE mandates in the next few years will force new cars to get more complex and expensive both to purchase and repair. The HEMI engines days are probably numbered.

Whatever you do don't get a black one, blue will be sooo much easier to keep looking clean:

Five years (plus a additional 3 months) is a awfully long time to be paying on a automobile.

beware of those non manufacture warranty issues some of them are useless...if you want a real 100,000 mile warranty go with Hyundai they are also nice cars but not as cheap as they were in the past. I think they are better cars.

Honda's quality is not near what it was 10 years ago the warranty would be a good idea... my transmission guy put his kids through college thanks to honda's transmissions kicking the bucket early in life.. Honda still has the resale warranty just like toyota but people are wising up pretty fast.

Like the others have said, if you decide to go with the extended service plan, go with the product from Chrysler.

You can get the MaxCare 7/100K with $100 deductible for about $1,880. With a money-back guarantee, it is $2,045. The lifetime plan is $2,456.

Hope this helps.

Historically/Statistically they have had problems with their V6 transmissions, but I didn't recommend the V6. I recommend the I4 specifically because it is more reliable and has lower ownership cost due to a timing chain versus timing belt. I personally only run manual transmissions due to the further reduction in ownership cost and increase in entertainment.

Looks like this dealership doesn't offer the Chrysler warranties... Not feeling great about going out and purchasing one separately either, as results are varied. Feeling like I should give up on this car.

Another update.... talk about pressure, they don't want to discuss the warranty until we write up a deal...

Am I right for thinking "What the Heck?"

Your gut is telling you to run, you should listen.. Is there any other Chrysler dealers around?

Tell them you wont be discussing anything.
Utilize the closest exit. Accept no phone calls from them.
Keep the Corolla and run it into the ground.

The is a new '13 model we're talking about right?

Don't new Chryslers have lifetime powertrain warranties? Personally, I'd pass on extended warranties, expensive, probably unnecessary and muddys up the waters during negotiations.

I think you're getting tangled up in the weeds here with this warranty business.

If reliability is that much of a concern perhaps you should be looking at something else.
