I do like grilling my steaks, babybacks, fajitas, chicken, hamburgers, shrimp, fish, mushrooms and other veges. I know it's just a difference in taste. Nothing wrong with liking Chinese Food. About the only thing we use bbq sause on is baby backs and sometimes chicken. We do marinate fajitas, veges, shrimp and fish. We mainly use dry rubs/spices on meat over charcoal and hardwood. Chinese food is something I was introduced to later on in life and really have had a hard time with the spicing. When and where I grew up I imagine the closest Chinese restaurant was at least 50 miles away. We traveled that far maye 2 or 3 times a year.
 
A good friend of mine was from Hong Kong. He said the same thing The Critic said.

I had awesome BBQ when I was in Texas. Anyone from Austin ever go to Meyer's BBQ? I really liked that place.
 
Around my house they have Huge China Buffets. Its basically a Chinese fast food placed on steroids. I love how all the ghetto people run for the lobster or crab soon as the cart comes out.
It has a much bigger assortment of food. Lots of Greens and soups...etc, not just fried rice.

Thai food is awesome..RED curry pork is my fave.

I am kinda getting sick of Chinese these days..lol.
We need a BBQ place around my way. Some ribs, Huge monster burgers...a porterhouse or ribeye...mmm mm mmmmmm.

Taiwan Chinese will say Hong Kong is too westernized, not the real stuff. Mainland China says the same. Now you got the Taiwan and Mainland Chinese pointing the finger that they have the real Chinese food. Different regions of Chinese cooking.
The real fact is yes you got maybe 5 woks burning and each say the onions has certain spices cooking on the wok, the chicken or meat has certain spices cooking on the wok, the bell peppers has certain spiced cooking on the wok and so on. Mix all together and the recipe calls for each veggie or meat have it's own distinct taste in one meal! To the extreme cases of Chinese cooking!

interesting about "traditional" chinese food containing bell peppers...when did they get incorporated in "traditional" fare.

I think the same thing about Italians (peppers and tomatoes), paprika etc. A lot. When these things were introduced in the fairly recent past.

BTW, how on Earth did the Irish end up relying so heavily on potatoes at the expence og whatever parsips and things they ate before ?

Yes that is very true. One of the reason is the spices and sauce that are made in China are not available in the US.

Each region in China North, South, East and West has their own style of Chinese cooking and spices. I believe Hong Kong is more South Chinese type of cooking.

A Chinese owner here in the US will not tell his recipe for that matter since the spices and sauces are not all available in the US. It's his new craft...American Chinese Cooking!

I'm happy to report that the American food overseas isn't Amercian food, at least as long as we are talking about fast food. In England McD's burger patties are a bit crunchy and actually okay. Pass on the CJD cow burger, though. KFC sells a decent rice bowl in Japan!

McDonald's beer in Germany is much better than anything you can get to drink in a US McDonalds.

Personally I wouldn't mind their patties having a little crunch. Just like I fry in a pan or grill. I think crunchy is a good think. I like my steaks grilled medium in the middle and some crunch on the outside. Of course burgers are always well done.
 
I like Memphis pulled pork,home cooked Texas brisket and christmans Tamales. Chinese food sold in American buffets is not that good. I am a Sushi nut though.

I just meant the bun, which in the US is seemingly made for toothless people (what's up with crustless white bread? Ack!), has more pleasing properties elsewhere.

I gave up beef ten years ago for good. Now, bison I will eat. Those Wyoming bison steaks are great!

We were at the shops the other day, when our 4 year old daughter proclaimed that she just wanted "normal" bread for a change.

Thinking that she'd been to one too many kids parties with fairy bread on white bread, we asked with some trepidation..."which normal bread do you want ?"

"Just 9 grain, but I don't want pumkin seeds".

phew.
 
Just got back from neighoboring town with excellent Chinese buffet (actually run by extremely nice Korean couple). Yes, 15 minutes after had that ole blow the bottom out of the pot experience(don't know if it's actually the food or my digestive system rebelling) never feel bad and a good emptying out probably doesn't hurt anyting.

To my point, WHY should I care if it's genuine, original, 100% chinese as long as it's delicious. Some is sweet, some is spicy (dam hot), excellent textures, colors, flavors, and atmosphere. Suppose if one were raised Chinese or spent time there it'd be a disapointment, but for those of us who are just plain Americans it's great.
