I have never heard of Havoline, and have just learned, that Chevron makes motor oil. It is my understanding, that Chevron owns Havoline, which was once Texaco. I thought Chevron was always just involed with gasoline, and Diesel vehicles. Are these good oils? How do they compare to the likes of Valvoline, and Shell/Pennzoil. I may never come to a conclusion about oil. This site is an addiction, and has really becoming a daily read for me. Thanks for any input. Have a great day!

Nothing wrong with Havoline oil. I grew up with it myself,and seen many engines that were run only with Havoline oil,all were spotless.My dad uses it til this very day,with no issues.

I would put Havoline up there with any of the name brand oils, even the coveted Pennzoil conventional.
Chevron recently dropped the Texaco branding from Havoline and it is now Chevron Havoline.

I started hoarding the Texaco branded Havoline before it was gone. No rational reason other than it was a brand we relied heavily on when I was growing up and I poured a lot of it as a kid. It's just an emotional thing. I have a fair amount of the Chevron branded stuff saved ahead too!

Yeah Havoline is a good oil, in my opinion it was a better sleeper oil when it had more moly in the antiwear package, but I would still put it above a few more recognizable conventional brands.

I've used Chevron products in our trucks for over 30 years with excellent results. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chevron lubricants to anyone.
Havoline is great oil. Though it is still alittle hard to find. Seems to be that way with all of chevron oil products. They have droped there supreme line of oils and switched to havoline. My local chevron rep said that the same oil in a supreme oil is in the new havoline bottles. I got lucky and scored the last 5 cases of supreme synthetic they had in the warehouse. I used Mobil 1 exclusively for years and swaped to PP back in 06. I recently made the switch to chevron / havoline and I am excited about using there products. Last weekend I opened up a case of the supreme synthetic and changed oil in my honda. Seems to like it. It is high on the miles but it runs good and seems to love that oil. Im gonna do a VOA on what was left in a quart and do a VOA on the new havoline synthetic next time I go by the warehouse and pick up a couple cases and see what that will tell. A little off topic, i had never seen chevron delo 400 in 10w30 before until I went to chevrons warehouse. They do make it. I have 3 gallons to prove it.

Remember that Chevron bought the name Havoline from Texaco. Not the formula. Havoline is just a repackaged Chevron product or close to it. I hated to hear it as I was using the old Havoline. If (back in that day) you looked at the old Havoline data sheet with the Chevron Havoline data sheet, they were totally different...with the Chevron product not having as good #'s.
Today you can not go wrong with Havoline or Chevron products. Use with confidence, to bad I can not buy Chevron for 49 or 59 cents any longer.
IIRC, Chevron invented the hydrocracking process for making Group 3 oils. They have been in the lube business a long time. Chances are good that Chevron or a licensor of their process is supplying some of the base of the oil your using.
