Chevrolet quad cab 2500 vs Ram quad cab 2500

Looking at both these trucks. For Towing. Quad cab and 4wd. Gas engines 6.6 vs 6.4.

I'd like to hear from owners here. Looks like the Silverado is 3.73 only rear end, with the 6 speed. Ram can come with a 4:10 plus 8 speed trans.

The Silverado has more torque at 469, Ram has 429 but lower rearend gear and 8 speeds.

Which one can you take delivery of quicker?

I'd be looking at the GMC over the Chevy, for asthetic reasons. But that's just me.

From what I have read the Chevy has dismal reliability and a high repair record. I'd look into common problems for both before deciding.

The GM 6.6l HD doesn't have DFM.

The Ford 7.3 is the king for this segment, but it is also the priciest. Is there a reason why it is not being considered?

Ram delivered a lot of value when their trucks were deeply discounted, but in the current market, not so much. Their HD cabs are the smallest in the segment. GM's cab design is newer and have IFS. But then, Ram has the rear coils in the 2500 and no one else does. Pros and Cons to each.

My buddy's wife just bought a 21 2500 6.4 w/4.10's for their small horse trailer. No issues at all with towing it. Lifetime average for 1400 miles (with 300 miles of towing) is 10.1. So fuel economy is going to be rough.

One of our engineers got the 6.4 Ram and went into shock with MPG when towing … it had some of PIA issues
(he lives remote so both service and range matters). Traded for Duramax that tows fantastic …
So does the big Ford gasser see much drop in MPG towing ~?

In that case I would probably go GM. Ram is a great value when deeply discounted, but if you have to pay near sticker, they fall short on the meat and potatoes compared to the newer 3/4 offerings.

GM's trucks also do not require the expensive FCA spec 0W-40 oil and probably have better a/c.

What are you towing? How much weight? I have a 2500 Ram Mega cab with a Cummins. I love it for towing! I pull a 36 foot 11k travel trailer. No way I’m using a gas truck! In 6th gear at 75mph I’m turning about 1800rpm. I also get about 9.5mpg at 75mph. If I slow down to 65mph it jumps to 11-12mpg. Personally I’d rather get there then worry about a few mpg’s

Out of warranty diesel repair costs scare me, I don't want a post warranty 10k bill for emissions repair.

7k is fine for a gas 3/4 ton. If you were doing like 9-10k+ or in the mountains 24/7, then yeah, diesel.
