I change my oil in my 2012 Nissan Pathfinder with a 4.0 V6 every 5,000 miles and I am thinking about running the Walmart SuperTech filter that should do 5k no problem. My question is how much am I compromising engine protection since the Super Tech will not filter as well as say a Fram Ultra or a Napa Gold? Do you think it will even matter for 5k OCI?

The issue might be bypass setting pressure for the 'value-brand' filter. Personally, I'd just use a good quality oil filter and replace it every other oil change instead of using a cheap filter.

This video from YouTube (below) was pretty cool for me, as the ST16 is the oil filter I typically use on my Grand Cherokee; unless I find a combo deal I like at a parts store like Advance.

I'd use an Ultra. You could use the XG3593A, which is interchangeable with the XG7317 that fram lists on for your application. You can buy a six pack of these Ultras and ship them to your door for $26.21, or $4.37 per filter, XG3593A deal. You could easily run these for 3 oil changes making your cost $1.46 per oil change, which would make this by far your cheapest option. You'll also get the best filtration you can buy! No brainer in my opinnion.
The only difference between the XG7317 and XG3593A, is the XG3593A is a slightly shorter, but much fatter filter. XG3593A actually holds more oil and media than the XG7317. If you have the room to fit it, and it seals up to the block just fine, then I'd use it with confidence for 3 oil changes.

Those Wix made jobber filters are my top choice for a bargain filter. I have used a bunch without issue. If you purchase the designated part number for your vehicle, the specs should all comply with your vehicle's needs (bypass etc).
On the flip side less than a dollar more gets you an orange can with much higher filtering efficiency than the ST. Is your car worth another 90 cents?

The Super Tech filters are fine.
As stated, they are Wix built.
I just installed one over the weekend. Set me back $2.84.
The FRAM Ultra does offer some higher efficiency but at a premium.
Most people using the FRAM Ultra filter push on for longer OCI's to get their money out of their oil/filter.

Used the Super Tech16 on my Ram in signaturelastoil run. When the weather dipped into the low 20s or teens -- guaranteed a good 3 seconds of rap from my motor on the initial start in the morning. The only other time I heard that rap in the winter here in Pa was with a purolator classic. Bang for the buck -- Fram Ultras is hard to beat. Am I saying the Super Tech filter is a bad filter -- no im not. Just stating the physical side to my own situation. Just did not care for the anti drain back in the Super Tech16 or Purolator Classic. Installed the Fram Ultra once again & with weather dropping in the teens this past weekend --super quiet when started. Little things that make me smile!!!

The ST is a great filter. Wix makes good filters, and even their cheap filters are good quality that will do 5k with no problems

As long as your engine does not hammer for a few seconds after cold-startup, the Supertech will be fine.

Yeah, didn't share the video based on his expert review LOL just thought it was neat to show some other people what's inside a filter that's a fairly common size.
