Try pulling it out quicker(examine), then re-insert and pull it out real slow. Report back with the results. Sometimes I've had one side of the DS smeared and the other side is fine.

I've had one car where the fluid would get sucked up the tube after shutdown. Because of the seal on the top of the dipstick, I'd have to break the seal, then wait a few minutes until fluid would drain down and properly wet the dipstick.
