I just got done with my 1st Auto Rx cleaning cycle and ready to start my rince cycle. I bought a 2004 Volvo XC70 with 45,000 miles with the 2.5 turbo and the filler cap showed lots of build up and the dip stick is stained pretty bad. These pictures are before the Auto Rx cleaning but the filler hole and dip stick are totally unchanged. They still look exactly like they did before Auto Rx.

I thought they would be a little cleaner at least! I followed the directions to the "T". I'm still going to do the 2nd cleaning cycle after the 3,000 mile rince. Hopefully this will be a little cleaner soon! So far I'm very dissapointed with Auto Rx.

I figured it would have done something. I think I jumped the gun because I just got the filter off and it is pretty loaded. I'll give it more time.....looks like it might be doing it's job after all.

Those top areas may be getting very little direct contact with the Auto-Rx. But look how clean that dip stick area is that contacts the oil. But give the rinse a chance.

**How come it looks red in there?

You are looking at two protected areas - they are only in incidental contact with oil.
Especially the dipstick.
But you may be near an equilibrium with cleaning and deposits.
That engine is not keeping itself clean. Get your PCV in shape, and upgrade if possible. Guys on your specific car forum may know tricks.
I would not be happy with those deposits at only 45,000.

Clean the cap and stick with carb cleaner. The baffle limits oil from travling up into the fill area. If you're concerned that AutoRx is working, pull the valve cover after the rinse cycle. That type of neglect may require two treatments. AutoRx works. It really cleaned up my old neglected Cherokee (and the filter was like a brick!). Good luck.

That is one dirty engine for 45000 miles. As the others said you have to complete the rinse cycle before making a decision as to how well it worked.

The reddish/brown color matches your lab in the background. Chocolate or Black Lab? Sorry had to ask, I have a chocolate.

My wife and I test drove a 2004 or 2005 Volvo SUV before she decided on the Mercedes. The one we test drove looked the same under the oil cap as the pictures you posted, and it made a sound that I didn't think was normal. We quickly marked that one off the list. By no means do I think Volvo engines are bad; I just think there are a lot of them in the used market that were not well cared for by the original owner.

The dip stick is in the oil all the time, thus in contact with the Autorx. Please post up pics of the dipstick after the Autorx. Perhaps a before and after. And the filler hole to!!!

We love pics!!!

Its one of the best OTC oils PERIOD. Search the UOA's and in PCMO section, you'll see.

Yes, but what is paraffin?

"In chemistry, paraffin is the common name for the alkane hydrocarbons with the general formula CnH2n+2. The simplest paraffin molecule is that of methane, CH4, a gas at room temperature. Heavier members of the series, such as that of octane C8H18, appear as liquids at room temperature. The solid forms of paraffin, called paraffin wax, are from the heaviest molecules from C20H42 to C40H82."

All non-synthetic oils contain some wax. Diesel fuel contains wax. Pennzoil contains no more wax than any other brand, and never did.

This is very true, esp with auto trans Volvo's. Most in my local community have been owned by Hertz and used as part of their luxury rental fleet. Obviously, they endure some of the harshest driving conditions and are abused far more than other cars would be. On the Volvo, most are turbocharged, so they run hotter, and require more constant care (which they usually don't recieve).

On my MT S60, the PO supplied me with reciepts indicating that 1/2 of the oil changes from new, were done using full syn from the dealer. My car has 53,000 miles on it, and the oil cap & dipstick has no staining/sludging as illustrated in your pics.

Recently tho, with the -35C temps and short trips, the motor developed some water on the oil fill cap. After a day of warmer temps, the water has since disappeared.
