2022 Subaru Factory fill with 15k miles

I wonder I service total of 5 subaru changing their oil at least twice a year but to me oil is cheap engine not.Plus to check those fluids and belt, leaks etc while hood up.
Everything looked good. We did have to top off the coolant. It took about 1-2 quarts.

I know it’s cringe running oil that long. My friend helped me out and I showed him step by step how to perform the oil change. He’ll probably do the next one himself. However I don’t mind lending a hand again if needed. Maybe I’ll do an oil sample on it in the near future. As unexpectedly decent the oil came out. I still explained the severity of the situation and how repeating this OCI again could possibly cause an engine failure.
Got it, your friend learned the lesson, and with luck will get good life out of the vehicle. You did the right thing and were a good friend. Thanks for explaining.

Are you certain it was not changed? Let's hope he doesn't have an engine whoopsie with that OCI record.

How does the engine sound? The 2.5L FB is quite rackety even when in good order
I forgot to say the engine did sound normal. Subawooo normal 😂. No abnormal ticking or knocking. I’m still as surprised as everyone else this thing took this neglect like a champ.

half a gallon??
I'd expect maybe 2-4oz a year due to evaporation from the overflow bottle.

so there was nothing in the overflow and you had to add to the radiator too?
if not.. it wasnt 2 quarts.

My 1992 car already had a 12k miles change interval.
Maybe 12k in a year. I’m not sure 1992 oil would of performed as good 3-4 years long @ 15k with engine breaking in without any major sludge or varnish. Who knows maybe older oil could make it out that far. I don’t believe so personally.

There was nothing in the overflow. No fluid was added at the radiator cap itself. It was probably closer to 1 quart however I didn’t measure it. I usually add close to a pint every 6 months to my 21 Outback 2.5. All the oil samples come back negative for coolant in the oil.

I personally owned 3 fb25 powered subarus and worked on a 4th.. seemed like 8 oz every couple year at most.
but subarus sometimes are mysterious 😂
Finally threw out the gallon of premix I bought in 2011 for the 2011 forester.. still 3/4 gallon.
After an initial top off of 2-3" which wasnt as much as it appeared.. barely touched the jug.
UOA with no coolant definitely provides a nice piece of mind

my 2024 with the FA24DIT is still over the hot line when hot(about 1").. 10months and 12000 miles in.

Those odd shaped overflow jugs do change a large amount of inches for a small amount of coolant.
Loving the turbo. Just had a loner while they replaced my front window run channels.
I got a limited 2.5 and around town it was great I think the cvt was better tuned/tweaked with the N/A 2.5 vs my turbo/cvt combo
but merging and highway I was missing the turbo and hating the "eyes on road" nanny sensor.
it would go off when I was checking mirrors to change lanes.

I'm very curious how the hybrid forester will drive. Not due to even think about swapping for a couple more years but I'm interested.
esp. when the new wears off, not first model year and you can actually find one below msrp.

I was temped but probably was going to have a lot of break in material it would have been hard to judge the oil’s performance.
The only factors truly judged by a UOA are not affected by break-in material. Viscosity, TBN, insolubles (filter info), fuel & antifreeze contamination… that’s what you’d be looking at to judge if the OCI had exceeded the oil’s capabilities, NOT the wear metal load.

Just put something over the sensor. I had a rental OB one time with this; I simply folded the card they leave in all the rentals and slid it into the gap so it covered the sensor. Problem solved! If I owned one of them, I’d just put a piece of electrical tape over it.

How did you come to that conclusion without an UOA?
Oil was liquid not a pudding, hardly any sludge or varnish, engine survived the abuse with no damage. No visible glitter either. I’d say that’s a darn good 0w-20.
