The 'pizza wars' seem to be heating up around me.

For the longest time, Little Ceasars had their $5 pepporoni pizza that was a great deal...an 8-slice decent-sized pizza for $5 that would comfotably feed two. Other places, like Pizza Pizza had medium pepporoni's for like $7-$9, so close, but not uber-cheap.

Now, LC's has upped the price of a '$5' pizza to $5.99. Still a good deal, but up it goes.

So, the wife and I are looking for a cheap dinner after working late, so we go to Pizza Pizza, and lo and behold, THEY now have a $4.99 medium pepporoni pizza for take-out only!

Again, a decent meal for two for $5. About $8 idf you include a can of pop.

Do any of you ever buy 'super cheap' take out pizza? What's the deal you've found?

The LC deal is still 5 dollars here but includes any one topping pizza, not just pepperoni. But it just isn't very good pizza. I dig under the couch cushions and scrounge up another 3 bucks for the Papa Johns 7.99 one topping large. It's way worth the extra 3.

LC is still 5 bucks here, and I like it, but I'd agree it's not "very good". I have low standards I guess. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't.

Papa Johns has a 4.99 large on Tuesdays which I love as well.

Otherwise it's all coupons for deals around here.

I wouldn't consider "Little Seizures" to be real pizza. nor would I consider "Feces Pizza" (AKA: CiCi's) or Peso Patron (Pizza Patron acceptamos Pesos de Mexico)

Pizza the Hutt is unacceptable as well.
If I have time, I might consider Papa John's. They are real nice about remaking the pizza but they are at about 75% screw up rate
I still don't like Dominoes.
Pizza Inn is just plain nasty.

I would honestly rather just get a frozen pizza from Aldi or Tombstone for half price or less. Virtually the same quality. More cheese.

Papa Murphy's is only a couple bucks more. You gotta' bake it yourself but it's well worth the extra couple dollars.

+1 They usually have 1 or 2 topping large or extra large pizzas for about 7 or 8 bucks around here. Makes Dominoes taste like the cardboard box it comes in.

Indy pizza shops FTW around me. Tried a Pizza Hut pizza the other night for dinner, and we're going to keep patronizing the local pizzeria on Main Street since their pizza is far better than any Pizza Hut pizza for a dollar or two more.

LC's, Sloppy Hoes (Domino's), Pizza Sl#t (Hut), Hungry Howies, all are dimply disgusting. I'd rather eat, and do, frozen Red Baron's that I get 3 for $10 at Kroger.

I like the digiorno pizza i get from sams club. 3 Pizzas for around 9.50. The three meat one and pepperoni is pretty good and I like it with the rising crust - better and cheaper than LC and pizza hut. I like papa johns but is $$. My favorite pizza of all time is the homemade pizzas Caseys gas stations.

LC isn't too bad and if price is the only concern than that's the deal. Tastes better than dominoes or pizza hut anyday, IMO.

Papa John's is decent (IDK why everybody acts like that stuff's the bees knees), but basically if we're willing to spend a 'few dollars more' than LC, we go to a local joint that has awesome stuff. Just outstanding pizza. We're having some folks over later tonight and we might just have to call up on one or two...

I do the cheap pizza thing every Friday night!

Tonight I got Little Caeser's, the one near my house has it for $5.55. It's not the greatest pizza, but I do like their crazy bread!

Last week I had Pizza Nova, it's a lot better, but they charge $7.99 for a medium pepperoni (or plain cheese, as I got it) Plus it takes them more than 20 minutes to make it.

I also go for the Pizza Pizza deal quite often, their pizza is not bad and $4.99 is a great price! The one near my house can usually make it for me in under 10 minutes too, and even when they are busy it's still less than 15.

One of my neighbors (who also owns a C5 Corvette!) owns a pizza place not too far from here, but when he gave me his price list I saw that they want $12 for a medium! Yikes! I didn't ask if he gave a "good neighbor and fellow Corvette owner discount"

"Decent meal"?

That one had me laughing harder than I've laughed in a long time. That's obesity, diabetes, heart disease and tooth decay rolled up into a fake food, synthetic ingredient package geared toward the lowest price point possible. It's nothing I'd want to put into my body.

If you want something that is actually healthy and still doesn't cost much start with a whole wheat crust, add some tomato sauce, turkey sausage, and then top it with a four cheese combination of fresh, real mozzarella (not the dried out shredded stuff in the 2 cup package), gorgonzola, ricotta and parmigiano-reggiano (the cheeses of the classic Quattro Formaggi Italian pizza).

The whole wheat crust is far healthier than anything false food joints have to offer, the turkey sausage is far leaner and much better tasting than the garbage that chain store pizzas use, and the four cheese combination blends to make it much more flavorful.

Top it off with a glass of water rather than soda (with all of soda's known health issues) and you have a quick, easy meal that's far healthier than your false food pizza. And you don't have to trust some pimple faced high school kid to make it for you.

I agree 100%. Most people around BITOG use top quality oils and oil filters, yet they want 2 pizzas for $5. Cars can be replaced, but you only get one body. Love yourself enough to put good quality food into your body. Love yourself at least as much as you love your vehicles.

If you want that deal that bad, buy it and take it to the soup kitchen and let homeless people enjoy it.

Why does everything have to get the health nuts all riled up and posting their soliloquies?

We understand. You eat healthy food and that's good. Congrats.

Sometimes we just want a cheap pizza, which is what this thread is about. If you don't think we're making the right decision, start another thread and quit hijacking everything in this section.

That Little Caesars is like the worst pizza in the world. They used to be in Kmart stores around here, in the snack bar.

Pizza Pizza up in Canada is one half a step above Little Caesars.

Lucky in Buffalo, we have some pretty good pizza here, so the chain restaurants don't do that well.

Once in a while my Von's groceries has an extra large frozen supreme pizza for $5 on Friday only. Usually I bought 2 or 3, bake 1 for 4 person and had other(s) in freezer for later. We also have salad and/or soup, the total dinner cost for 4 was less than $10.

Cheapest is the Superstore about 12 minutes away. $10.99 for an 18 inch cooked pizza, $8.99 on Mondays. And it's not bad pizza either.

There is a local place near me called POP'S PIZZA that still uses 2 coal fired ovens. I can get a big daddy 24 square slice pizza, pick it up all for $13.00

thats a good deal in my book and thats with whatever toppings you want on it including extra cheese.

Pizza, when done right, isn't the worst food by far. Get it from a local joint with real cheese and real dough. The sauce is likely from a can. At least the rest of it is likely made fresher than the chains. I know that was true of the mom-n-pop joint I worked at, and is true of the local places around me.
