Cheaper carrier than Verizon?

I've used Tracfone for years. Figured that if anything went sideways, I could just walk away--complaints of their customer service was widespread, but so far, I haven't had problems. I just buy a $20 card every 3 months. Wife and the kids have some sort of plan, not sure if it's a yearly one or what, but they seem content.

I swear that their service is not as good as Verizon, same towers but given second priority. I'm usually fine with this.

us mobile for me

We use Comcast for our cell service because that is our internet provider. Previously, we had Verizon. 2 cellphones with unlimited data is about $ 82/month after fees, etc. with Comcast.

Correction: 80.53/month I just looked at the bill

Check US Mobile if you don't mind going with a reseller - they offer ATT, T-Mobile and Verizon carriers. The subscribers have lower priority for data but I haven't felt it reduces quality of service for most tasks except for streaming on TV with hotspot. I was with their ATT service but switched carrier to T-Mobile - ATT had a blind spot where I normally parked.

See what T-Mobile reception is in your area (great here). Then see what deal they will swing. I avoid the 4th party companies for security reasons.
T-Mobile has Magenta 55plus plan-assuming the OP qualifies. T-Mobile's International plan where you get text and data and no charge (in over 100 countries) is phenomenal. Costco is a great place to sign up for T-Mobile services. The wife and I got several hundred dollars in gift cards for doing so,

I switched from VZW to Google Fi (Tmobile MVNO). Since im mainly on WiFi, cheapest plan ($20 Flexible) plan before tax.

VZW asking for 55+ per line.

One other reason for us is Canada

Determine what primary network (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mo) is best for your coverage and find a MVNO operator that rides it. Mint was mentioned, and they ride T-Mo. Spectrum and others ride Verizon. Sticking with a Verizon operator might be easier for moving your existing phone(s). Some of those primaries also offer their own prepaid plans which are usually cheaper. The negative is that MVNOs typically have less network priority, so you could see slower data or phone issues at times of network congestion.

Wife has been with Verizon's online only service Visable for quite a while now. I haven't heard any complaints and $25/month all in.
I was in the process of switching from Verizon (20+ years) to Visible. As soon as I clicked the port lock code, I got an offer to save $20 per line per month so I stayed for just a couple dollars more than Visible was going to be.

The main problem with a lot of these sub-brands is they are MVNOs so officially they are 2nd tier with respect to network priority. This goes for Visible, Tracfone (also VZW network), Mint, Google Fi, etc.

Is it a risk? Yes.
Is it really a risk? Probably not.
