I need help determining which synthetic is best for me, I was recently at my local (im in Canada) Wal-Mart, and they have synthetics from ranging $25 to $47 plus tax per 4.4, 4.73 or 5L Jugs.

Some of the prices i remember are:
Castrol Edge - $47/jug
Castrol Syntec - $42/jug
Mobil 1 - $45/jug
Pennzoil Ultra $36/jug
pennzoil Platinum $25/jug
Quaker State $25/jug

The car is a 2006 Hyundai Tucson 2.0L I4 with 77.000KM on it, recently i took over from my wife we are first owners. Car has always seen castrol syntec + whatever filter Cosco put on it (i think its a champ filter). We usually change the oil around 8000KM i would like to go 10.000KM if its possible. I will be using hyundai oem filters from now own and a local mechanic will change the oil for me, i have to bring my own oil.

I drive to work about 30-40 minutes one way at an avg speed of 70km\h.

Whats the main difference between the synthetics i have listed? they all claim to be full, 100% synthetic as far as i know. I Currently have a jug and a half remaining of Pennzoil Ultra for my next oil change which i got when it was on sale for $25/jug

As others posted, whichever on your list you can buy for less money is the one. Also, anyone of those synthetic can easily do 12-15k KM (8-10k miles) for your 30-40 minutes daily trips.

Really ? i never realized i did oil changes too soon (8000KM), i always felt that at the end of an OCI the oil looked pretty dark and i felt it was done. Would the filter be an issue going that long ?

thanks for the great replies...

Oil color means nothing. Do a UOA if you want to find out more about whether the oil is suitable for further service at that point.

No.

You're doing fine, keep changing it at 8km. Use whatever syn is on sale.

8k KM (6k miles) on Syn oil ? Isn't it a waste ?

What does your owner's manual say? As I recall, the Hyundai recommended OCI is 7500 miles (12000 km) or 6 months, and they recommend Quaker State.

Quaker State is the factory fill for Hyundai Motors.I like QS oil and based on it being factory fill you couldn't go wrong using the QSUD,plus it's priced well.Stay with the oem filters they are in general your best option imo.
