Changing to synthetic at 90,000kms

I plan on switching my 2007 GMC Sierra 4.8 gas motor over to synthetic engine oil (mobil1). I have used conventional oil only previously. Yes, I'm using the same wieght (5w30).

Does anyone have bad experiences doing this??
Is this a good idea?
I've heard that sometime the engine will consume a bit of the oil at first because the seals have to rewet? What is that about?

My truck has 90,000kms on it with the conventional oil only, I plan on using synthetic from now on.

I buy the oil on sale at canadian tire so I don't get raped at full price, so please no comments about how its a waste of money.

tanked, for my last oil change on my 02 Sentra at 89,000 kms, i switched to synthetic. So far, i haven't noticed any changes at all-- no oil leaks or increased consumption. I am also using Mobil 1 5w30.

If you are in the Vancouver area, i can put you in contact with a person who will sell you Mobil 1 for less than Canadian Tire's sale prices.

You should not have any problems. I have switched over many vehicles with more than 100K mile.

First of all

2nd. Since you ask if its a good idea but no comments on if its a waste of money then I guess I'm out.

Even though I've run both in the same engine and truck as yours. Done used oil analysis and put many miles on the same combo.

Also ANY advice without knowing your use of the vehicle is not going to be useful. Reading the sticky HERE would help YOU out.

In BC, it can get quite cool in Winter. A Full Synthetic is a good idea then.

Some like to make this more complicated than it has to be. Bottom line. If you want to switch to a synt it's not a problem.

Don't know what kind of oil the Lexus Dealerships put in the '93 SC400, but I'm going with a full synthetic (and you just KNOW it is going to be 5w30 SynPower @ $2.49 per GALLON after rebate), once it hits the 85K point, which should be sometime next month.

Let's see: 5.1 quart capacity with filter, 4 gallons = 16 quarts = 3 oil changes @ 7.5K OCI... Ought to get me to 107.5K at which time I'll start in on the 5 gallon jugs of Quaker State HP Maximum Protection that I picked up last month on sale at WalMart.

Filters from NAPA Gold were 40% off last month, too.

Retired life is gettin' really GOOD here in the Pacific NW!

I just didn't want a bunch of "your wasting your money, or it's more expensive replies."
Really its not that much more expensive I did the math.

So synthetic is good for the cold weather then eh?

In extreme cold synthetic oil has its advanatges. I prefer synthetic oil, but have used plenty of dino over the years, and never had engine problems.

i recently switched my wifes escape 4cyl 28,000 miles to castrol edge5w20, i had always ran motorcraft semisyn 5w20. havent had it in long enough to know about consumption. but her car now idles at about 600rpm form about 850-900rpm (wich in my minds backwards) but with radio and blower motor off, i cannot even tell this things running. my reason for the switch is to hopefully boost mpg slightly, ive done a few other small things wich have made slight increases so far. of course i want longeveity too. i switched my ford truck to m1 5 changes ago and no consumption, maybe be waste of money but i change more often than most

You could say synthetic is good for hot weather as well.

I would use High Mileage Mobil 1 check out the product data sheet it claims to be ideal for higher mileage engines that have only used dino.
