Good morning,

Due to constant unacceptable gremlins in my GMC Sierra last month I sold it and purchased a 2025 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss CCSB with the 2.7 Turbo Max engine.

Just ticked over 550 miles today and was going to do an oil change to flush out the factory fill and whatever contaminates might be in the oil pan. I usually do this at 1000 miles, anyone think I am doing this too soon?

Was planning on using Castrol EDGE 0w30 and a STP XL oil filter. I like the STP as they are manufactured by whomever supplies Premium Guard. Thoughts?

Nice truck, congratulations 🎊 👏
What you’re going to do is fine
Ignore the video above 😆

That did seem to be a bit much, but I never heard those suggestions before and would be willing to do it if there was some proven benefit.

That combo should work well or step up to Castrol EDGE Extended Performance. 500-1000 miles is perfect for first oil change.

Is there any discernible difference between tbe Edge and the Castrol EDGE Extended Performance? On the bottle on is rated 1 year 20k miles and the other 1 year 25k miles. I wouldn't be pushing either to past 6k.

Probably not a big difference. EP is their flagship oil for a couple bucks more. Should hold up in severe service well.

2.7L L3B K turbo: 430 lb-ft torque, 4 inch stroke.
At that power density 0W40 supercar. What oil temps have you seen? I would guess you haven't used full torque for extended period yet. Never ever a fan of Castrol Edge.

note: 6 qt sump.

She seems run between 220-230 engine oil temperatures.

I have never seen 0-40 supercar in the store, I see regular 0w40 mobil one but I dont think that's DexosR rated.

I think there is a substantial supercar thread here somewhere - maybe use google or similar to search it.

There may be a more appropriate lubricant formulation for high boost turbo applications that may experience LSPI.

Here is one thread, but not the one I recall recently that was likely form the GM 6.2 V8 debacle:

Well, i think I am just going to put in the Castrol EDGE 0w30 that I already purchased. It was the only API SQ ILSAC GF-7 5w30 oil on the shelf at my local store, I guess all the other brands are older stock.

It meets the spec and I am just using it to flush out whatever they put in at the factory. I may or may not do another "flush" oil change in the winter (if I do it would be the Castrol again) before I take it to the dealer for inspection and my first free oil change in June of next year.

After that I am going to switch back over to Valvoline Restore and Protect like I was using on the Sierra with the same motor. She absolutely loved that oil, could regularly knock down 26-27mpg highway driving on a flat road.

I hope the bp ILSAC GF-7 demonstrates improved performance. Inform the forum after a few hundred miles how it's running. But 2-5k miles is sort of a wear-in Bermuda Triangle, IME.

Check the STP filter closely, I had bought one that was a Fram.
Better that basic FRAM construction than some others that have demonstrated open seams and torn media.
You must be aware that First brands has Fram and sadly Champ labs under their umbrella and have been consolidating across brands leading to some unanticipated "Frankenstein" assemblies. It's a mess out there ... caveat emptor!

Agree wholeheartedly. Carquest Premium seems to be maintaining their quality….for now.

Why not just use the Valvoline Restore and Protect if you had good luck with it? Why are you using Castrol? I have Valvoline Restore and Protect in my Camry and will be using for five 5koci. Then might go back to the deals and rebates. Just got $30 rebate for 2 5qt jugs of Castrol that I will use in my kids car and friends car.
