Some of the guys on BMW forums do it.

You don't want any remnants of the old oil causing additive clash.

5k may not be enough to prevent sludge and varnish.

Once you hit 50% OLM your oil is only 50% good. Why do you accept 50% as good enough for your engine? Once you hit 90% OLM it's a good time to change.

Huh? Confused by this response.

It doesnt have to be Supertech.

Check parts store oil specials for good deals. Until the end of this month, Advance Auto Parts has Quaker State synthetic with a filter for $20. Oreillys and AAP both normally have Havoline synthetic around that price too.

Right now, Napa has their synthetic on sale. All of these oils are available in 0w20.

I would buy Mobil 1 (Either EP or PV [Plain Vanilla]) only on sale, along with Fram Ultras also on sale. Being a couple of OCIs ahead on supplies will save you more, than using less expensive oil.

Your maintenance procedure does't make any since. That's the problem with your Honda. Why?
You decided to use one of the best oils around, but way under use it. Then you figure a cheaper oil will save you a very few dollars. All of this in a late model Honda. Go figure.

That is by far the worst oil I have ever run in my car. Night and day difference. As soon as I drained that out and replaced it with SuperTech full synthetic, my engine was back to running smooth again. Heck, I'd even choose a conventional oil over Quaker State synthetic any day.

I've actually considered that but I can't find super tech 0w-20 at Wally World here

Since you live in Alabama....switch to a 5w20. QSUD would be my choice.

If you insist on 5K OCI's....to save a few $$$, use a Semi-syn like Motorcraft of Pennzoil Gold. Motorcraft comes in a 0w20, but you'll have to purchase it from a Ford dealership.

For 5k OCI and filter change. Save your money and get a NAPA silver oil filter and some NAPA full synthetic 0w20 or NAPA conventional 5w20.

NAPA full synthetic is still on sale, till the EOM, and NAPA silver filters are reasonably priced by the case.
