we just bought my wife an 07 classic gmc with the duramax and allison combo (it's mine in a couple of years:)
I've already changed out the oil once (500 and I'm about to do it again now at 1200 miles) and the rear end at 500. How about the trans? I don't have time (getting underway/ deployed) to change out the allison so I hope just changing the filter and topping off will surfice for now. She will be towing an aprox 8k lb trailer at some point for a horse show during the next couple of months but that's it. should I be concerned? maybe I just care to much about my vehicle's maintence.

thank you for your input

Your schedule of changing out fluids is rather aggressive for my tastes, but not unheard of.

Really, the transmission should be okay, especially if the towing episode is a only a one-time thing. In fact, it'll be better to wait until after the towing episode to change the trans fluid.

GM wants you to change the allison spin on transmission
filter at the first motor oil change. Our work truck had it
change out at 6,000 miles. The Govertment get the motor oil change once a year or evey 75000 miles. They even recomended
the use of rerefined oil.

At 1200 miles, nothing is wrong with the ATF fluid. Nothing is wrong with the oil. BOTH need to be adequately filtered. Filters get more efficient over time until the point that they get packed up...THEN you'd have a problem. So, if you're really concerned, change the filters only. The differential, being a non-filtered device, could benefit from an early drain/flush/fill. I would even say after your first towing, you might benefit from a drain/flush/fill. Thereafter, as long as you have a magnetic plug, I'd follow the "severe service" interval rest easy.

Modern Vehicles are cleaner, lubricants are better, filters are better. It's no longer significantly beneficial to do so much with the drain/fills.

Appreciate your service. I was in the Navy 10.5 years so I know what it is like to be away from family/friends.
